SYNLAB UK & Ireland have extensive experience of working in partnership with the NHS to deliver and improve pathology services through its existing pathology joint ventures - including Southwest Pathology Services (SPS).

Our team at SPS have been fundamental to the principle of making a positive difference to healthcare within Somerset for 10 years and we have a fantastic opportunity for a Band 4 Associate Practitioner, specialising in Blood Sciences to support the leadership of Southwest Pathology Services within our HUB Laboratory in Taunton, Yeovil District Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital. Our Laboratory holds ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and is an HCPC approved training laboratory.

Hours: Varied 7.5 hour shifts between the hours of 8am-8pm/ approximately one weekend shifts one in 6 weeks.

Responsibilities:

  • Rotate through all areas of the laboratories as required and maintain high professional standards.
  • Perform Biomedical investigations, within operating procedures and protocols, to provide within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of senior grade BMS grade staff.
  • Utilise the laboratory LIMS, Q-Pulse quality monitoring system and other application software according to authorised protocols including assisting in computer data entry in all areas of the laboratory.
  • Provide supervision, training and professional leadership to junior staff which includes monitoring their performance against laboratory standards and their training plans.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant NVQ Level 3 with applied theoretical knowledge, training to Level 4 diploma or equivalent desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Biomedical techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and LIMS including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Statistical Packages.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills, along with the adaptability to change.
  • Good developed interpersonal and team working abilities.
  • Ability to analyse and technically interpret test results.
