The job specification


We invite you to bring your professionalism, passion and expertise to an award-winning District Energy team, as we support our clients on their journey to net zero. You will lead and be involved in a number of exciting and innovative District Energy projects, focusing on energy master planning, heating and cooling and industrial decarbonisation. Our clients range from governments and local authorities to large private organisations, within the UK and internationally. To succeed in this role you must have proven experience of project management/engineering and ideally a post graduate qualification in renewable energy systems, district heating or similar. Your key tasks and responsibility will include:

  • Contribute to the Department’s business development activities by leading bids and developing key customer accounts.
  • Bring your technical knowledge in district heat systems to become a technical authority for a portfolio of projects
  • Be the Project Manager for a portfolio of projects ensuring client satisfaction whilst delivering technical and financial performance


Your key deliverables within the first 12 months will be:

  • Establish yourself as a thought leader in the business, supporting the Leadership Team to build a high performing team through openness, trust and respect.
  • Provide support and development to junior members of the team
  • Support the technical development of our team in relevant software packages and design tools, some of which are common to industry and some are Ramboll specific
  • Direct and deliver a number of district energy projects as Project Manager and demonstrate a successful track record of delivering quality and customer satisfaction
  • Contribute to business development activities and actively participate in client engagement
  • Proactively engage with the leadership team and become a reliable and trusted member of the team, using your knowledge and experience of the sector to contribute to our success

  • Proven experience in heating and cooling district energy sector, ideally throughout the full life cycle of projects from design through commissioning and operations
  • Appreciation of business models and financial modelling techniques for district heating projects
  • Possess mechanical, chemical, electrical, process or energy engineering degree, ideally with a post graduate qualification in renewable energy systems, district heating or similar
  • An excellent technical understanding of a wide range of low carbon technologies associated with district heating projects
  • Track record in effective management of project finances and delivering projects to budget and program


Personal qualities that will help you succeed in this role include:

  • High energy and a passion for transitioning the energy industry to net zero
  • Ability to work in collaboratively and multitask with large volumes of work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ideally with experience in business development, project management and client management
  • Ability to speak and write effectively in English

As our new Associate for District Energy, you will be part of a dynamic and growing team, helping to lead the industry by delivering some iconic and innovative projects both at national and international level in collaboration with colleagues in Denmark, North America and other international businesses.


Our team’s market focus covers the full spectrum of district energy solutions; however, we are particularly in the district heating and district cooling sector which is projected to grow significantly in the UK in response to national targets to decarbonise heat.
