Job description
Are you a senior leader with experience of running a complex service delivery operation? Have you managed and coached teams to deliver consistently high performance?
Dogs Trust are recruiting for an Associate Director of Rehoming to contribute to the development and implementation of the operations strategy.
Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and normally cares for around 14,000 dogs across its network of 21 rehoming centres in the UK and one in Dublin. We have an exciting new strategy with ambition to transform the way we work to ensure every dog lives life to the full. We want to be there to help even more dogs and their owners, but at the heart of what we do is our commitment to never put a healthy dog to sleep and together we never have to let any dog down.
In this brand-new role you will focus on translating the operations strategy into long term and annual plans, setting standards for delivery and performance that ensures the maximum number of dogs in our care are rehomed and that we create the best environment possible for them.
You will lead the rehoming activity across our network of rehoming centres, Central Operations and Professional Development in Canine Behaviour, working together to achieve high standards and consistent delivery of dog welfare, customer service and operational procedures to maximise rehoming possibilities for dogs in our care, ensuring the optimal use of our centre facilities and foster network to help as many dogs as we can. In addition, you will be responsible for creating a collaborative working environment for colleagues so we can maximise the collective impact on dog welfare and ensure effective delivery of joined up services that deliver the Dogs Trust strategy.
To be successful in this role you will be an exceptional leader with a proven track record of leading dispersed, high performing teams in service of organisational strategy and stakeholder needs (900 team members plus 1600+ volunteers), with experience of devising and monitoring performance standards such as KPI’s, Standard Operating Procedures and evaluating the implementation of, and compliance to, policies and procedures. Our culture is important to us, and you will need to lead the team in setting the right tone bringing our values to life. You will ensure that the workplace gets the best from our people every day, is collaborative, ideas and contributions are listened to and that it remains fun, as when we are at our best we provide the best for the dogs and owners we are there to help.
You will have previous experience in managing budgets and ensuring appropriate control of expenditure, and you will be confident in public speaking and conveying messages to a variety of audiences.
The role will be home-based but there will be a requirement to travel nationally and internationally to the rehoming centres across the UK and Ireland, as well as visiting other charitable organisations to promote cross sector working.
