RWT has an exciting opportunity for you to join the Senior Leadership Team in the role of Associate Director of People – HR Services.
You will join the HR Team to drive forward the successful delivery of the relevant Trust’s strategic and operational People objectives and the performance of the Trust’s workforce functions.
This is a critical senior leadership role and the post holder will deputise for the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development across their portfolio. The post holder will operate with significant freedom to act with minimal guidance in order to set goals and targets for others. The post holder will work with senior colleagues members and clinicians and managers across the Trust; in addition, the post holder will work with senior members of external organisations including in other Trusts, the ICBs and Local Authority.
The role has corporate responsibility for the management, communication and delivery of appropriate workforce governance and policy across the Trust and for managing the development of workforce information systems to support effective corporate governance and delivery of the People Strategy.
- The post holder has responsibility and accountability to the Director of HR and OD for appropriate workforce governance across the Trust; across all primary, community acute and hosted services (such as the West Midlands Research Network).
- Has responsibility for interpreting NHS policy and defining the application of the policy within the Trust for their area of work and independently establishing goals, targets and standards to be achieved from a workforce perspective, reflexive of relevant guidance.
- To provide and receive highly complex, highly sensitive and highly contentious information where there are significant barriers to acceptance, understanding and a high likelihood of robust challenge.
- Has significant autonomy with an ongoing requirement to work with minimal guidance and to set goals and standards for others. The post-holder will deputise for the Director of HR and OD and undertake all duties in line with the requirements of the role to support the Director of HR and OD in the delivery of:
- Workforce governance and assurance
- Corporate responsibility as a senior member of the Trust
- Continuous development of the Workforce and Organisational Development Team to ensure it benchmarks well to deliver a professional, innovative, motivated and effective Workforce, OD and Occupational Health team.
- The direct line management of the senior Workforce, OD and Occupational Health Teams.

- The Associate Director of People will deputise for the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development as appropriate across the range of responsibilities when required, which will include attendance at key senior meetings attended by the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development, e.g. Trust Management Committee, Finance and Performance committee.
- The Associate Director of People will promote a culture of collaboration with clinical and other colleagues, proactively developing positive relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
- The Associate Director of People will ensure effective arrangements are in place to provide Workforce, OD and Occupational Health support to Operational Divisions and corporate departments (including hosted services such as the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), and the Black Country Pathology Service (BCPS)) and will promote closer working with divisional and clinical directors.
