An Associate Business Analyst (BA) role is one of the entry points into the profession within Digital Group.
You may already have some business analysis experience or have transferable skills to bring to the role.
When you join us, you will work towards developing a good understanding of the tools and techniques used by BAs.
You will be given appropriate responsibility and under the guidance of other BAs will assist in delivering change for the department.
You will continue to grow your capabilities through working with more experienced BAs and develop your skills and knowledge through the support of the wider community of practice.
Job description
As an Associate BA working within DWP Digital these are some of the things you will be doing:
- Working with BAs to develop your understanding of Agile principles, methods and tools in support of your development.
- Supporting workshops under the guidance of experienced BAs.
- Running your own interviews, focus groups and more, to effectively understand the business problems and user needs.
- Translating the business problem and user needs into a set of detailed requirements.
- Developing stakeholder relationships and working to resolve risks and issues in an appropriate manner.
- Understanding business processes and activities that impact and that are impacted by the product or service.
- Taking responsibility for improving your own knowledge of Business Analysis and Agile principles, methods and tools and seeking mentoring and shadowing opportunities within the BA community.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in their DWP office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business need but personal circumstances and other relevant circumstances will also be taken into account. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
Salary Information
Salary for this role is from £34,173 (Band min) to £34,971 (Band max).
Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.
Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.
Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

Stage 1: Application
Your application will consist of three parts:

Stage 2: Interview
If you’re successful at sift stage you will be invited to a video interview via Microsoft Teams. There, you will be assessed against the Experiences and Technical Skills listed below:

- Can demonstrate that you take responsibility for your own learning and development opportunities.
- Can demonstrate enthusiasm when it comes to dealing with changes or new challenges.
- Demonstrates a keen interest in the role of Business Analyst.
- Business Improvement Process - Able to identify service and process improvement opportunities with guidance. Contributes to the implementation of proposed solutions.
- Relationship Management - Identifies key stakeholders and relationships and works with teams to build these. Understands how to work with stakeholders and contributes to improving these relationships.
You will be asked to do a short (15 minutes) exercise on a specific topic. Further details will be provided to candidates invited interview.
