Job description
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced operationally minded manager to support the leadership of Sheffield City Council’s service to improve school attendance and inclusion.
Our vision is that Sheffield will be an inclusive city where we work together to ensure that all children and young people get the right support at the right time so that they can live a happy and fulfilled life. To achieve our vision we are focused on reducing and removing the reasons that children miss out on education or where they are excluded in any form from their education. We are working through our evolving inclusion model to ensure that our vision is fulfilled.
The Inclusion and Attendance service is integral to achieving this. The service is made up of specialist and geographical teams who provide key workers, targeted interventions and whole school support for children are at risk of not accessing learning or being excluded. Working in partnership with young people, families, schools and services, we focus on ensuring vulnerable children can successfully access education through the identification and removal of the barriers they face. The service has responsibility for working with schools to improve school attendance through supportive and statutory measures.
Our new Assistant Service Manager will be fiercely child focused with a commitment to delivering excellent practice across the city. You will have experience of working in a multi-agency environment and of working to bring about improvement and change. You will value early intervention to support young people. You will understand the value of effective assessment, be skilled in delivering interventions and have a proven track record of managing staff.
In the role you will have the opportunity to drive forward aspects of the Sheffield Inclusion Model including the Team around the School approach in partnership with local schools and services. You will line manage a highly motivated group of Team Leaders and work with the other senior managers in the service to develop our core Inclusion offer. You will support the development and delivery of interventions and work diligently to support a consistently high level of performance across the team.
You will work as part of a supportive team, being a core member of the Access & Inclusion management team working together to reduce exclusions in all forms in the city.
We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly. It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.
Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and safety of children and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be required to complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check.
Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.
