The Property Design Team:
The Property Design team is responsible for driving innovation and design excellence across all of the JD Group brands on a global scale. The department delivers inspiring, commercial retail environments for our consumers in order to maximise their shopping experience, whilst maximising profitability for the Group.

The role:
The position of Retail Designer, is a key role in the global expansion of JD sports across Europe. Working as part of the Property Design Team, this position necessitates a high principle of design standards with the creative ability to develop each store design on a project-by-project basis using the agreed store grading guidelines. Strong leadership, communication and reporting skills are essential as is proven experience in a sports fashion environment, designing and delivering stores within Europe

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the lead designer within agreed territory, taking projects from brief through to completion
  • Liaising with key project stakeholders at varying stages of projects, working closely with internal departments
(Acquisitions team, Project managers, Quantity surveyors,Retail, Merchandising, Marketing, Multichannel, IT, Security, Health and Safety etc.)
  • Coordinate meetings to present store designs and obtain approval / feedback
  • Attend site meetings; talking through the design with the project delivery team, check surveys and record site information, ensuring all data is up to date in all documentation
  • Set up drawings in AutoCAD using landlords or survey information ensuring all work is accurate
  • Space plan merchandise layouts using a design brief and option targets
  • Production of detailed plans, shop fronts, sections and elevations for proposed store designs and site-specific details where required
  • Liaise with external professional agencies such as architects, MEP and structural engineers, permitting departments in order to obtain statutory approvals
  • Offer assistance and support to the global design studio to support workload in other regions as / when time permits
  • Partner with the GHQ graphics team to deliver project specific designs
Position Requirements:
  • Experience at all stages of the design process, from conception through to implementation
  • Design creatively to set budgets, demonstrating an understanding of construction costs
  • Interpret briefs accurately with the ability to work to set deadlines
  • Detailed understanding of construction or shop fitting coupled with a strong understanding of permit regulations across territories with a good understanding of building regulations within UKSelf-motivated and driven, with the ability to manage own workload to deadlines
  • Ability to negotiate and influence at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Great spatial awareness
  • Strong retail and commercial awareness, specifically within the sports fashion industry
  • Some experience in a creative role with a leading retail design agency or in-house design team
  • Be prepared to travel nationally and internationally holding a full driving licence and a valid passport
  • Previous experience within a similar role is essential

Skills:
  • Expert level AutoCAD with working knowledge of how to build dynamic blocks
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud suite
  • Experience of Revit is desirable
  • Expert in visual rendering and 3D modelling
  • Ability to use all Microsoft Office programs
  • An interest in the use and specification of sustainable
materials and construction methods
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Interior Design or other relevant qualification
