Job description

We are now recruiting for an Assistant Ranger who can commit to working regular weekday evenings for a seven-month period from 27th March to the 27th of October 2023. Working Hours will be 16.00-20.30 Saturday and Sunday.

As the evening ranger you will be the eyes and ears of Lyme up until the estate closes at 8pm. You will have fantastic people skills and be able to work independently to deliver a variety of maintenance and security tasks. Lone working is a crucial part of this role so your ability to work efficiently and manage your own workload is essential. A driving licence is also required.

What it's like to work here:This Peak District mansion is a popular filming location and was made famous as Pemberley in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. High above Manchester, it is a beautiful and special place and two thirds of our visitors come to enjoy the outdoors here. What you'll be doing:Key responsibilities include:

  • Actively engaging with visitors to ensure that their visit to the park is enjoyable and create opportunities to convey key messages that will inspire visitors but also promote responsible behaviour.
  • Responding to radio calls and resolving/investigating issues that arise on the estate. Examples include: Sheep/deer worrying by dogs, injured sheep/deer, first aid incidents, lost property, suspicious behaviour, abandoned vehicles.
  • Reporting any serious issues via radio to the duty manager and/or the emergency services.
  • Emptying bins and litter picking areas as required.
  • Helping the ranger team to deliver a programme of summer engagement activities and contributing to wider property events.
  • Carrying out presentation work across the property, including mowing and strimming key areas.
  • Repairing park infrastructure and estate furniture as required, such as gates, fences and stiles.
  • Undertaking basic livestock checks.
  • Carrying out any other duties as required by the rangers and wider property teams.
  • Locking gates and ensuring visitors and other members of staff have left the park safely and on time.
  • Work alongside and provide support to volunteers.
