Due growth within the Midlands region, we have a fantastic opportunity for a recently qualified Quantity Surveyor to join our Birmingham office as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor.
We can provide you with the opportunity to work on an enviable variety of exciting projects within the built environment. This will include projects within the residential, commercial, retail and leisure sectors.
In addition to this you will work as part of a diverse and vibrant team where you will receive structured training to enhance your skills and develop as a Quantity Surveyor. You will also have access to our industry leading APC Training Programme which will provide you with dedicated support and a clear pathway to becoming a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
Our Birmingham office is located in the city centre and within walking distance of New Street station.
Key tasks and responsibilities of the Assistant Quantity Surveyor role include:
As an assistant Quantity Surveyor in our business, your role will be primarily to assist senior staff in pre and post contract duties and the delivery of projects. Some of your day-to-day duties will include:
- Working as part of a team of surveyors and project managers reporting into the Associate Director whilst providing a cost consulting role the client.
- Assisting the Senior Quantity Surveyor in ensuring the client achieves their stated objectives through close teamwork, proactive cost control and the provision of contractual advice.
- Attend and/or chair meetings with client.
- Prepare financial reports.
- Monitor and document the communication of a project status.
- Assist in the preparation of the tender documentation.
- Monitor performance milestones and deliverables.
- Assist in the administration of cost/variation procedures.
- Assist in the carrying out of post contract surveying duties including establishing the effect of variations, settlement of accounts and disputes.
- Provide day-to-day cost management of projects from estimate preparation through to final account settlements.
Desired skills, qualifications and experience:
- A relevant degree or masters qualification in quantity surveyor or similar equivalent subject.
- Bright and articulate with the ability to learn new skills, systems and procedures.
- Some prior experience in a Quantity Surveying role is desired, however recent graduates with no experience may be considered.
- Experience of using CostX software would be highly advantageous but is not essential for the ideal candidate as full training can be provided.
- Experience of working on projects in the built environment would be advantageous – i.e. residential, retail, industrial projects etc.
- Some practical experience of working with common forms of contract such as JCT and NEC would be advantageous, however a theoretical knowledge of contracts through studies could be acceptable.
- Demonstrable experience of carrying out tendering and procurement processes.
