This is an opportunity to be part of the Factual production team in BBC Audio, Wales and West of England (based in Bristol). Each year we produce hundreds of programmes and podcasts for Radio 4, BBC Sounds and the World Service. Our regular output includes Radio 4’s flagship story-telling strand, The Untold, as well as the Radio 4 series Great Lives and One to One. We also produce a range of podcasts, from the popular comedy/history show Evil Genius With Russell Kane to the recent true crime saga Fairy Meadow. The department has a long tradition of producing high quality history, literary and environmental documentaries. As Assistant Producer, you will work across our Factual output and the work is likely to range from research to production to reporting roles. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your production and story-telling skills in a lively, supportive working environment.

Main ResponsibilitiesAs an Assistant Producer, under the guidance of a more senior editorial figure, you would be expected to take on a range of responsibilities. These include:
- Coming up with ideas for features, creative treatments and potential contributors
- Contacting programme presenters and contributors and arranging for them to take part in recordings
- Producing material for broadcast – recording and editing audio, writing scripts and creating social media assets
- Making logistical arrangements for recordings in studio and on location
- Taking part in location recordings as part of a team and under the guidance of a producer
- Playing an active role in team meetings
- Compiling and submitting relevant and accurate information to the radio networks and BBC Sounds
The successful applicant will share our love of audio storytelling and will be knowledgeable about the radio and podcast markets. The ideal candidate will also have a multimedia vision and be able to create content that works across different platforms. You will be tenacious, creative and will have excellent time management skills along with a willingness to be flexible. You will have experience of finding and telling stories in audio, and a track record of working as part of a team. You will have a demonstrable knowledge of the output of BBC Audio, Wales and West of England. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and will have the technical skills to record and edit audio for programmes and podcasts. You will be a thorough and accurate researcher, with a good understanding of the BBC’s editorial guidelines and when to refer up for senior editorial guidance on matters of potential controversy.

Location: Office base is Bristol. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office with home working.
