Assistant Planner - Project Controls Academy

The Programme and Project Partners (PPP) model was mobilised in 2019 with the purpose of transforming major project delivery at the Sellafield nuclear site.

The partnership brings together KBR, Jacobs, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Altrad Babcock and Sellafield Ltd to deliver a 20-year pipeline of major infrastructure projects to support the decommissioning of Sellafield and to create a clean and safe environment for future generations.

In delivering its pipeline of large-scale infrastructure projects, PPP is creating opportunities for its people, supply chain, economy and communities.

We currently searching for Cumbrian based candidates to enrol onto our newly founded PPP Project Controls Academy based on the PPP Programme working with Sellafield Ltd. This is an opportunity for graduates or candidates with the appropriate transferrable skills to join our Project Controls team as Assistant Planning Engineers, developing a broad range of skills, enabling you to provide Planning & Scheduling management to the wider Programme.

Candidates will benefit from an intensive 2-year training programme outlined below and have an opportunity for exposure and involvement in our portfolio of Nuclear Projects; you will also have the chance to work with a wide variety of clients, often working alongside other construction professionals in multi-disciplinary teams.

The Person

• Candidates with demonstrable transferable business experience, or graduates who are entering the workplace
• Candidates involved in either project, engineering, data, finance or numeracy/logic based roles or training
• Showcase a proactive skill set, recognise the transferable skills, learning mentality, technical attributes, problem solving, analytical and critical thinking
• Have a level of Commercial acumen

The Academy

You will be expected to be a keen communicator and a proactive learner; the field of Project Controls continues to evolve as digital innovation continues to be adopted to help Projects achieve delivery success. This evolution is exciting, and you’ll be supported to innovate and learn!

Within this function will be allocated a Project Controls Coach to provide day to day direction as well as technical mentorship, helping to upskill you with some of the specialist applications that our team use such as the Oracle Primavera (P6) Planning tool.

Phase 1

Embark on an initial 12-month Assistant Planner development plan including digital awareness training. Assistant Planners will embark upon a tailor-made training course that will assist development in understanding Planning, digital skills, data visualisation, utilising data in decision making and develop an adaptable mindset to embracing new tools; beginning to support digitally enhancing the skill set of PPP and long term Sellafield workers.

Phase 2

Identifies continuous improvement options on successful completion of the programme. This ensures continued learning is identified and individuals are prepared to progress from Assistant Planner to Planner to Senior Planner etc. and ensure progression within PPP. This learning may be tailored to the individual dependant on their specific development needs. In addition, there will be further digital upskilling in line with the Project Controls discipline from a technical capacity.

• Good organisation skills: ability to manage multiple tasks and willingness to ask for help when needed, as well as support other members of the team
• A focus on getting things done even when it feels difficult, to meet deadlines and targets
• Strong communication skills both verbally and through communication methods such as: video conferencing / Microsoft teams, presentations, workshops, email etc.
• Enjoy working with systems, processes, and order to help teams achieve success
• The ability to ‘work with people’, resolve problems and reach agreement
• Feel comfortable working with both complex numerical and technical language and information
