Job description
About us
Plantsplus is a family owned garden centre which first opened its doors to the public in 2000. It was acquired by the present owner 5 years ago and is part of a group of three centres, each with their own special identity.
The centre has gone from strength to strength and we think it is now one of the leading garden centres in the North East. Substantial improvements have been made since it was brought into the fold and we are always looking to improve the offering to our valued customers. You can help us do that.
The Role
We are seeking an Assistant Manager for our busy garden centre at Plantsplus, near Blagdon. This is a crucial role within the management team. You will be responsible for supporting the productivity of the centre and the management of day-to-day operations reporting to the Centre Manager alongside our existing Assistant Manager.
You will be expected to lead a team within the centre and coach and manage your reportees to help them reach their full potential. In addition you will deputise for the Manager and be comfortable with the responsibility of managing the centre effectively when required. This will including training, delegating tasks, supporting staff, improving sales and assisting with Human Resources duties.
Helping deliver a service across the centre which sets us apart from other retailers will be a key part of your role and this requires leadership, attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
The Candidate
We are looking for someone to support the management team and play a key part in the running of the business and its future direction. A passion for retail will be displayed in your enthusiasm, creativity and leadership skills as you will be required to set a positive example to the team that you will help lead.
The role requires problem solving, versatility and the ability to think on your feet. In addition the ability to manage staff and make sometimes difficult decisions will help you earn their respect. Experience of working in a retail environment is essential for this role. We are looking for someone who has a positive attitude and a good understanding of the day to day running of a retail business. An interest in gardening and outside activities will help you look after our customers and their needs.
We are very much aware of our obligations to our colleagues and the public so a sound knowledge of Employment Law and Health and Safety procedures will be a benefit.
You will also be numerate and computer literate and be confident in the use of EPOS. An understanding of performance figures and how to interpret and relay results to the wider team will assist you in managing performance and motivating team members.
