About the vacancy: The UWE Bristol’s Health and Safety Team have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Health and Safety adviser who is looking to further develop their career in a future-focussed University.

The team provides health and safety advisory service and support to all Professional Services and Colleges, formulates policies, undertakes audits and delivers a comprehensive training programme.

This is a front facing campus-based role where you will work closely with the rest of the team and specifically provide support and assistance across the full range of team work activities and projects.

The role will provide a proactive business partnership service to support a number of selected Professional Services and support the team with administration to include input and monitoring electronic health and safety management systems.

A significant part of the role will be actively monitoring and directly completing Health & Safety Team actions generated from audits and risk assessments and completing the annual fire drill programme throughout the UWE Bristol Estate.

Through our work the University has already achieved a strong devolved health and safety approach to ensure collective leadership on this critical agenda and to support staff and student engagement. As the University looks ahead to 2030 and the implementation of its Strategy 2030, there will be a focused continual improvement on health and safety. This will be achieved through the implementation of the ‘Health, Safety and Workplace Wellbeing’ Roadmap 2030’ which has eight objectives and also annually set milestones to ensure this improvement.

About you
: This role will best suit a proactive and highly motivated person with excellent communication skills, who is customer-focused and able to apply a pragmatic approach to health and safety.

We are looking for a candidate who has practical health & safety advisory work experience and is able to demonstrate an analytical approach to problem solving.

NEBOSH General Certificate qualified and (preferably) a member of IOSH who is highly organised with the ability to work in a team and with a high level of autonomy using your initiative to complete work objectives to an exacting standard within set timeframes.

You will require excellent IT skills with experience across, MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel to expert level is essential as is experience of analysing and interpreting data, drafting complex reports and delivering training and briefings to others.

This post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed – £300m has been invested in new state-of-the-art learning spaces and accommodation while we continue to develop incredible new facilities to enhance our offer even further.

Frenchay campus has excellent transport links; as well as being located near the motorway network we are within walking distance of two train stations, our bus terminus connects us to the local bus and metrobus network and we also have a range of cycling and changing facilities.

This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours per week, and is not available on a job share basis
