What We’re Looking For:

We’re looking for an Assistant Head of Safeguarding to deputise for the Head of Safeguarding as needed in leading the organisation’s response to Child Safeguarding Practice and similar processes. Duties include:

  • Deputising for the Head of Safeguarding as needed in managing and supporting the safeguarding team and hub.
  • Support the Head of Safeguarding in preparation for Board Safeguarding meetings.
  • To attend Board Safeguarding meetings with the Head of Safeguarding.
  • Being the organisational operations safeguarding lead for supporting the Foundation and its activities.
  • Acting as a champion of the organisation’s safeguarding policies and procedures and ensuring our staff fully understand and are able to implement internal safeguarding processes.
  • Responsibility for the frontline delivery of the services provided by the Safeguarding Team and its network of Safeguarding leads and officers (The Safeguarding Hub) across the Club.
  • To participate in the development and implementation of agreed policies and processes across the service.
  • To work in accordance with the Premier League safeguarding standards and audited practices.
  • To support key internal stakeholders, including working cross functionally with HR on risk assessments and criminal records checking.
  • To provide communications, support materials and training for internal colleagues on the importance of safeguarding.
  • Advocate for the Safeguarding Hub, Club Values and effectively communicate with service users, colleagues, and service providers.
  • Assisting with the development and delivery of Safeguarding training for our staff.
  • To ensure a person-centred approach is taken no matter what the issue is.
  • To ensure assessments and services are kept under review and adjusted accordingly.
  • To build up knowledge and understanding of local resources and community and statutory services available. Including (but not exhaustive) Mental Health Teams, Social Services, Health, Schools, privately commissionable services and voluntary services. Support and communicate effectively with them in the best interests of the service user.
  • To ensure that work is carried out within a framework, which promotes equality of opportunity in accordance with the Club’s policies, procedures and guidance.
  • To comply and support the Club’s Values, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and our Safeguarding Policy in every aspect of your work and positively promote the principles of these policies amongst colleagues, service users and other members of the community.
  • To help plan creative and innovative responses to service users’ needs and keep high quality records and assist with the preparation of reports.
  • To attend conferences, review meetings, supervision and training sessions as requested.
  • Manage your own caseload of support cases, from assessment, through to planning and interventions and co-ordinating any inter-disciplinary responses.
  • As a subject matter expert, you are responsible for ensuring you are conversant with relevant legislation, policies and procedures and an awareness of best practice externally and using this to make changes and recommendations.
  • Act as a custodian and champion of our Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities policies at all times and ensuring colleagues and volunteers are aware and compliant.

Must Haves/qualified by demonstrable experience to the level required:

  • Demonstrable safeguarding and support planning expertise in a previous post.
  • Knowledge and experience of direct work with those who have complex needs.
  • Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of statutory and voluntary services and experiences of liaising with them.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding for children and vulnerable/at risk adults.
  • Experience of working in culturally diverse communities.
  • Ability to undertake the work within an anti-discriminatory and empowerment framework.
  • Ability to give accurate information and practical support to service users of all ages.
  • Ability to write clear and accurate reports and use standard IT packages.
  • The ability to reflect on own practice; undertake training advice and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work in a flexible way, including evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service.
  • Appreciation and experience of working with sensitive and confidential information.
  • A commitment to equal opportunities and an understanding of the impact of deprivation and discrimination on communities, families and individuals.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with others in large, matrixed organisations.
  • An ability to work with senior stakeholders to persuade and challenge in the face of resistance and ambiguity.
  • Excellent team working skills which embody proactivity, enthusiasm and a hands-on approach. Highlighted through the ability to manage multiple activities and stakeholders.

  • An appropriate social care qualification or equivalent experience.
