As Assistant Gardener, you’ll be working with a team to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentation standards.
This role will include a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects.?
You'll be working 15 hours per week on a 3 month fixed term contract.

In this role, you’ll report to the Senior Gardener and be supported by a Gardener. The Gardens team is made up of six staff members (including a Head Gardener), and numerous volunteers. The working day is 8.30 to 4.30. Each day will be varied, you will be working in the beautiful setting of our historic gardens’ which include formal parterres, pleasure grounds, ponds, and a conservatory. A chance to explore working in these different horticultural settings. Belton can be a busy garden with hundreds to thousands of visitors each day enjoying the relaxed, playful atmosphere and wonderful gardens of which you’ll be maintaining.

What you'll be doing
Daily responsibilities may include assisting with the planting and maintaining of shrub and borders, hedge cutting and lawn mowing, propagation, weeding and watering. You’ll work alongside Gardeners and a team of volunteers. You’ll talk to the public every day, answering a variety of garden-related questions and talking about what you are doing with pride. We’re looking for someone with a practical approach to work, getting the day-to-day work done and a passion for plants. ?The role can sometimes be physically challenging, and we use a wide range of machinery and equipment to help us get our work done. The use of machinery such as tractors, hedge trimmers and pedestrian mowers is essential, but training will be provided.
