Part of the Metropolitan Police Service (Met), Forensic Services provide a vital response to London’s most complex policing challenges. Our team is at the heart of our work, delivering a wide range of technical and scientific expertise. As an Assistant Forensic Practitioner (AFP) – Crime Scene Examiner, you’ll build a career as part of our Front Line Response.
To join us, you’ll need at least five A*-C grade GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, maths and a science subject, plus at least two A*-C grade A-levels (or equivalent) – a science subject is preferable. We’re also looking for attention to detail, teamwork and the stamina for a physically demanding role. Above all, you’ll need the resilience to present evidence in court, deal with distressing incidents and attend mortuaries when required. Counselling and support will be available throughout your career.
The role involves a mix of early, late and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays. In exchange, we offer a generous shift disturbance allowance. Please note, throughout your career, you will be expected to work from different Borough Command Units (BCU) across London to support operational resilience and your own development. Applicants should be prepared to work at any location across London.
Besides the rewarding nature of the job itself, a competitive salary and a Civil Service pension, you'll also benefit from excellent career and professional development. If you’re looking to progress, this is an outstanding opportunity.
