The opportunity with NRC
We are seeking a proactive, adaptable and highly organised individual to join our Finance team as an Assistant Financial Accountant. The position is very broad and would suit a self-starter with excellent communication skills. This role provides great exposure to a wide range of finance duties, including international experience, alongside building relationships with various internal and external stakeholders. We are based in London Waterloo but are currently hybrid working.
Your role
Own the accounts payable and cash allocation processes, assist in the periodic close process including performing various reconciliation processes plus the preparation of internal and external reports. Assist in various ad hoc projects and provide support to the wider finance and other teams.
Key Accountabilities
What will you be doing?
- Managing the timely processing of supplier invoices and credit notes ensuring compliance with our policies and procedures globally, providing guidance to administrators and approvers in all countries as required.
- Reconciling supplier accounts to statements ensuring that all variances are investigated and cleared as necessary.
- Processing and posting Global staff expenses including verifying compliance with our Travel and Expenses policy.
- Preparing weekly payment runs for management approval including the validation of new templates and accounts.
- Accounting for all bank transactions, allocating cash and reconciling cash balances.
- Managing Accounts Payable e-mail account, physical records and updating all process documentation relating to the role.
- Providing guidance and support on Accounts Payable processes and champion NRC policy across the regions to ensure procedures are followed.
- Assist the Financial Accountant with the monthly financial close process including posting accruals, contingencies, prepayments, FX, and updating the asset register.
- Assist the Financial Accountant with the analysis of periodic financial performance against budget. Providing commentary to explain variances in business performance will also be required.
- Assist with regional tax returns.
- Maintain register of suppliers and their contracts.
- Assist in the annual audit process.
- Other ad hoc duties.
Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

- Strong work ethic combined with professional integrity, persistence, and accountability.
- Excellent at organising workload and prioritising tasks.
- Working knowledge of financial accounting/tax reporting.
- A curios mind who's keen to understand and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication due to regular interaction with senior management.
- Exceptional customer focus and engagement skills.
- Enthusiastic team player
- Intermediate MS Office and associated applications, e.g., Outlook, Excel, SharePoint.
Desirable
- Experience working with accounting software and Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as BST
- Educated to degree level or equivalent

Salary: £32,000 + £3,270 London Allowance, £2k healthcare allowance.
