The Company of the Assistant Finance Manager
A newly created Assistant Finance Manager position for a qualified management accountant is sought by a leading UK engineering services group based in North London. This fast-expanding business is responsible for project and services delivery across a broad range of blue-chip clients. Integral to on-going success is the introduction of this Assistant Finance Manager role to ensure strong month end reporting, management information and budget setting. The FD seeks a qualified accountant with a desire to drive the impact finance has on the business and support continued growth over the next 3-5 years as they execute their ambitious expansion plans following continuous double digit growth over the past 5 years.
Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Finance Manager
- Producing the monthly Management Accounts, including month end and year end consolidated reports, balance sheet reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance
- Preparing weekly cashflow forecasts
- Preparing and updating monthly commercial/ financial budgeting/ forecasting
- Preparing quarterly reforecasting of the commercial/ financial budgets
- Preparing the annual group budget
- Recording Bid Pipeline/ Secured sales and reporting monthly movements
- Reporting to stakeholders including commentary on material variances and Opportunities/ Threats alongside Key Performance Indicators
- Analysing turnover figures and creating forecasts/ budgets
- Ensuring timely delivery of Group Management Information
- Developing means to increase profitability and optimise operational costs
- Ensuring accounting standard adherence for financial transactions and reporting
- Establishing methods of controlling both direct and indirect expenditure
- Variance analysis: identifying causes of variations between established standards and performance results for all financial statements/ outputs
- Internal audit of all financial matters pertaining to the business to ensure not only compliance, but also best practice is observed
Skills & Attributes of the Assistant Finance Manager
- Qualified ACA, CIMA or ACCA
- Experience of a construction, engineering, WIP or project accounting environment would be highly advantageous
- Positive and constructive outlook, with powerful analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparation of and delivery of reports and analyses
- High level of integrity, being trustworthy and respectful of confidential information
- Resourceful and able to work alone, but fully able to provide input to executive team decision making processes
- Confidence in liaising with regulatory representatives and professionals in external organisations
