Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of Development, Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters– Boca Raton, FL.
Summary of Responsibilities include:
The ideal candidate will have successful fundraising experience in a non-profit environment, preferably in a higher education setting; will exhibit strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including oral and written; have a high-energy, collaborative, goal-oriented, and productive working style; demonstrate leadership, take initiative, problem-solve, act independently and as a member of a team; successfully collaborate, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and prioritize; will have the ability to demonstrate strategic thinking, good judgment, maturity, and personal integrity; the ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and the ability to adeptly respond to challenges.
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit new gift commitments at the annual gift ($1,000-$9,999) level, leadership annual gift ($10,000-$99,999) level, and major gift ($100,000) level from individual donors for high priority endowed and current use programs and initiatives.
- Secure corporate sponsorships for the Schmidt College of Arts and Letters events and programs. Serve as the gift officer for corporate relations; meet or exceed gift goal as set by the Senior Director of Development.
- Meet divisional goals for visits, proposals submitted, and funds generated for each fiscal year.
- Contribute to and sustain a robust pipeline of prospects through existing communications and event vehicles and develop strategies to identify and accelerate major gift prospects into active states of cultivation.
- Steward the existing donor community through individual and group stewardship activity that seeks to inform, inspire, and motivate enhanced giving. Working with colleagues in the Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and Central Institutional Advancement, schedule programs and events that thank donors and highlight the impact their gifts make.
- Partner with Donor Relations and Advancement Events for signature prospects/donor events.
- In partnership with the Senior Director of Development and the Development Coordinator, support the Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Advisory Board development activity; guide the development committee’s fundraising activities that raise gift revenue for priority programs; and lead volunteers in identifying prospects and making introductions. Keep committee initiatives on target and productive. Manage development activity follow-up and communication with members and the board as a whole.
- In collaboration with College and Institutional Advancement communications, implement fundraising-specific communication plans for prospect and donor group groups. Devise prospect/donor-centric strategies that can be scaled for broader cultivation and stewardship purposes.

Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of appropriate experience required.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with donor management system software, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
Be available to work beyond traditional work hours and on accessional holidays; be willing to travel as needed and adjust working hours to meet the needs of special projects."
