Within our Capital Design and Delivery department, we are looking for an Assistant Design Engineer to join our Waste Infra team based in Shelton.
Do you have some experience of designing or working on wastewater networks, or maybe you have an educational background in science, technology, construction or environment gives you a good base to develop the skills within a supportive design team, to become an Assistant Design Engineer, working on sewerage networks improvement projects. Are you interested in working on exciting projects that protect our communities from flooding and pollution, everything from improving CSOs to increasing capacity to upgrading pumping stations?

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
In this role you`ll be assisting with the design of waste networks projects for Severn Trent Water, including gravity pipes & tanks, pumping stations and rising mains. During the early stages of a project you will collect data, identify and assess the cost benefit of innovative options to solve wastewater catchment needs. As the project progresses you will undertake design calculations, or hydraulic modelling of options, produce CAD drawings, ensure compliance with standards and specification and pull together the design pack for tender, all while helping us to achieve our goals for health & safety, ecology, net zero carbon and Biodiversity enhancement. All under the supervision of a supportive and experienced design team, with lots of opportunity for skills development and progression. You will help us to generate the best overall solutions to the challenges of tomorrows environmental needs and consumer expectations.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
You`ll come equipped with a year or two of technical work experience and a STEM educational background, ideally in engineering design experience, you’ll be a keen problem solver who completes tasks to help meet challenging deadlines, keen to learn skills such as Civil 3D, InfoWorks and GIS, works flexibly to support the whole team. You will be keen to develop your existing communication skills to confidently engage with our customers and stakeholders and building relationships both within Severn Trent and externally.
Having water industry background would be great but not essential however experience in civil or mechanical design background would be beneficial.
Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.
