Job description
To provide support and deputise for the Clinical Director in their leadership and managerial accountability for all dental services delivered across East Kent (including West Kent for Domiciliary service) as commissioned by NHS England and Local Authorities
Responsible for policy and service development in Dental Services in East Kent.
To be accountable for the delivery of services under their control in terms of performance against activity targets, key performance indicators, governance, safety, leadership and quality.
To provide a fully comprehensive Community Dental Service for those in his/her care including comprehensive dental care, screening, oral health promotion.
Responsible for budget and physical resources.
To deputise for Strategic Dental Directors when required.
The post holder will be expected to dedicate approximately four sessions per week for leadership and management but with flexibility between clinical and managerial duties.
- Leadership and management of all services delivered across East Kent (including West Kent Domiciliary Service, HMP prison sites, Heathrow Immigration Removal Centres)
- Have a clinical case load commensurate with clinical skills and expertise.
- Provide comprehensive treatment service for patients who are unable to obtain dental care from General Dental Services including pre-school children, school children and people with special needs including those with learning disabilities, mental health problems, housebound older people, prisoners and detainees at HMP sites, detention centres and secure holding units
- Provide treatment under sedation (inhalation and intravenous) and general anaesthesia
- Plan and manage care where there are complex medical co-morbidities or the situation requires the involvement of other professionals and/or carers.
- Provide guidance for colleagues and treatment for special care and paediatric patients referred into the service.
- Provide direct leadership to the Oral Health Promotion Team and attend commissioner meetings
- Have a fundamental knowledge of business planning, budget setting and management
- Understand the commissioning process and the marketing of clinical services
- Conduct local inductions, lead appraisals and personal development for clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Manage clinical performance, including the quality of care
- Manage service user complaints
