Assistant Cook
Part Time / 30 Hours Per Week / Term Time / Permanent
Our city catering team are committed to providing a good quality mean to all children in order to contribute to their health wellbeing and performance. Providing catering to 78 schools withing Leicester city they provide a complete meal service.
Joining us, you’ll assist in ensuring that the service and standards provided meet the requirements, objectives and policies of City Catering and all relevant Legislation.
Working within the food production kitchen and working 30 hours a week will vary between 8.00am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday, Term Time only 38.2 weeks per year, This position is based Taylor Road Primary School, Taylor Road St Matthews, Leicester, LE1 2JP. Leycroft Road where City Catering are based will be required to work at on occasion.
What you’ll be doing
Day- to-day activities will include more than just cooking for the young people. You’ll be responsible for providing a range of nutritious and culturally diverse meal ideas. You’ll work with your unit manager and Chef to organise, arrange and prepare a menu that is creative whilst also being considerate of any special dietary requirements and culturally prohibited foods. In addition, you’ll work within a team to set up and dismantle dining room furniture, contribute towards the cleaning of premises and all equipment as well as reporting any breakdown of equipment and/or structural repairs.
You’ll be expected to always follow food hygiene rules and keep health and safety paramount in all activities.
What you’ll need
You’ll ideally have previous catering experience. You’ll be creative and confident in your approach to providing a range of dishes as requested. Holding the ability to cater for different tastes, dietary requirements and cultures e.g. gluten free, vegetarian, Asian and traditional British cuisine. This experience can be gained in employment or at home, as long as you are highly competent that can handle the pressure of cooking for masses.
You’ll have a basic food hygiene certificate and due to the nature of this post you’ll be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
