Assistant Contract & Legal Operations Manager

The Assistant Manager will be a member of the EMEA team of Contract Managers in the General Counsel’s Office, responsible for managing the contract management tool (Apttus), liaising with clients, drafting and negotiating national, multinational and global expense management program and product agreements for the American Express Global Corporate Services (GCS) division. This team is responsible for the contract acquisition and retention support for GCS clients in Europe.
The team works with key business partners to draft and review all contract documentation; negotiate legal and business terms; ensure that all contracts comply with American Express' internal legal and business standard operating procedures via Apttus and facilitate the execution and safekeeping of final documentation. The team utilises an advanced contract management tool, ensuring any required approvals are documented as well as enabling in depth reporting on contract metrics and cycle-time.
The Assistant Manager will work with the Director to maintain our team's automated contract management tool, as well as facilitate the execution and safekeeping of final contract documentation.
In addition, the Assistant Manager will support the Director with pre-deal support, work flow management, signature and approval mapping, document retention, contract library maintenance, document accuracy/completeness for contract requests via the tool, managing signature process as well as acting as point of contact for the sales team and account management teams for contract process and deal support questions.
The position provides the opportunity for the right candidate to not only demonstrate a key understanding of the contract process by becoming a subject matter expert, but also to develop the role by further assisting the Director with additional projects and responsibilities.
We are looking for a confident and innovative individual to join our team willing to take on a variety of responsibilities in order to ensure the success of the contract process from both an internal and external experience. Key to the role is communication with our key business partners and clients; via email, on the phone and in person.
The position will be based in our London office and report to the Director, GCO GCS Contracts EMEA..
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must possess significant contract drafting experience and/or legal experience
- Specialises in business process automation and contract lifecycles management tools.
- Database/project management experience
- Proficiency with technology solutions
- Excellent written and oral communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with internal and external constituencies to drive business results.
- Position requires prudent judgment and ability to balance risk and internal compliance and controls with revenue goals in an autonomous environment.
- Strong background and understanding of the contract management process (especially electronic signature and contract management tools).
- To demonstrate a mindset committed to process/service improvement and customer satisfaction.
- Excellent knowledge of contracts and negotiation strategies
- Experience involving contract drafting and negotiation in a corporate setting or a private legal practice is recommended.
