Did you know that we now sell over 55 brands on M&S.com? Due to our rapid growth and continued growth plans, we are now looking to expand our Buying team. We are currently looking for an Assistant Buyer to join our Womenswear Brands team at this exciting time!
Key accountabilities and measures- Support the Buyer by displaying a clear understanding of M&S’ customer, ensuring the brands offer is curated to compliment the M&S offer as well as bring in a new customer to the business. Work with the Buyer to analyse historical sales in line with trends and design direction to manage product mix parameters on brands including price architecture, colour balance, shape and margin to deliver a highly commercial and balanced range
- Work closely with our Brand partners, building long term strategic relationships
- Contribute to making working with M&S positive, follow best practice and ensure all communication is clear with brand partners
- Playing a part in onboarding of all new 3rd party brands, focussing on key categories and sales opportunities
- Consignment brands - Understand each Brands assortment plan, and highlight any deviations to option plan, or unplanned assortment (lines or ranges)
- Wholesale - Support the Buyer to develop and build an optimum range, and highlight any deviations to the assortment plan i.e. cancellations
- To work with the other departments, offshore product set up team and ecom team to manage the departmental critical path, providing guidance and direction to junior members of the team as well as other participants in the product set up process
- Manage BAAs to ensure there is an efficient product set up process and brands product is able to go live within planned timeframe to hit our monthly sales plan
- To work with Buyer in setting and delivering the strategy for the department
- To develop strong working relationships across the business with, and understanding of roles such as merchandising, ecom, stores team, business development team, delivery team, logistics and IT development
- Relevant buying experience with a major retailer
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate junior members of the team and communicate with Global Sourcing Offices and influence internal and external stakeholders
- Experience of cost price negotiations
- Experience in developing a comprehensive product range including marketing and packaging which satisfies all customers’ future requirements
- Understanding of the concepts of brand strategy and knowledge of the current competitive market place
- Good understanding of global retail market place with the ability to identify relevant product trends
- Basic understanding of Merchandise Planning & ability to understand M&S Buying systems End to End and manage systems accountabilities for the Department
- Critical Path Management
- Highly organised and self-motivated, accustomed to leading by example and taking the initiative
- Proactive in agreeing to take on Buyer responsibilities
- Role model for BAAs and strong interpersonal skills, capable of managing vertically and laterally
