A Vacancy has arisen for an Assistant Behaviour Specialist to join the Specialist Behaviour Team (SBT) based at Llwyneryr Unit in Swansea. This is a full-time post at Band 4. The Role is community based therefore the post-holder will be required to travel to a range of settings across south wales to provide input.

We are looking for individuals with significant hands on experience of working with adults with a learning disability who present with behaviours that challenge to join our Psychology led specialist team.

The SBT delivers a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Model andprovides in-depth functional assessment, hands on support and training to staff and service in PBS approaches. The SBT also play a key role in supporting NHS Learning Disabilty inpatient services, including Acute admission settings and Specialist Residential Services (Continuing care inpatient beds). The Assistant Behaviour specialist role is supervised by a Behaviour Specialist who will support them in their case work, undertaking hands on support of challenging service users as well as delivering training, contributing to research and other project work both within the team. The role also offers the opportunity to become a PBM trainer. The post is part of a friendly and supportive team and the applicant will be well supported with good training and supervision opportunities and regular PADR’s to support their development. The team welcomes dynamic individuals who meet the minimum qualification criteria and are keen to develop their skills in PBS, have good IT and written skills and who can demonstrate lengthy experience of working hands on with individuals who present with significant behaviours that challenge services.

The SBT is part of the Learning Disability Services within Swansea Bay University (SBU) Health Board and provides intensive input to adult service users with a Learning Disability and significant behaviours/risks that challenge. The SBT is a tertiary level service and works alongside professionals in Community Learning Disability teams to enhance service user support and contribute to multi-disciplinary decision-making and risk management.

The Specialist Behaviour Team supports service users across the SBU Health Board footprint i.e. Cardiff and Vale, RCT and Merthyr, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea. The team has two bases, one in Bridgend and one in Swansea with members of the team split across the two bases. This current post would be based in Swansea, but you may be required to work across the health board footprint. The team comprises of three Clinical Psychologists, Seven Behaviour Specialists who are all have a professional registration and six Assistant Behaviour specialists and is supported by a Clinical Lead (Consultant Psychologist) and a Business Manager.

Key aspects of the role include; undertaking direct observations, contributing to behaviour assessments, hands on support to staff teams modelling PBS interventions, data recording and analysis, report writing, attending MDT meetings, contributing to teaching and training.
