Job description

*12-Month Fixed Term Maternity Cover*

Have you ever thought about growing your career with an organisation that operates on a global scale to deliver a first-class service for the UK government and our international partners? A career where you’ll join our Apprentice Management team and play a key role in the journey apprentices take with us. A career where you’ll work in a complex organisation which is at the forefront of the government’s response to events which threaten the United Kingdom’s security and prosperity. If you’re looking for your job, but bigger, this could be your next move.

As a trusted government partner we work on a huge range of projects, and help protect the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We courier diplomatic packages across continents. We keep complex projects on track, and on budget. We store visa applications securely in the Cloud. And a whole lot more besides. It’s exciting work, and you could play a vital part as you help us develop the skills of some of our most important teams.

Help our apprentices develop as they take the first steps in their careers

This is a role where you’ll enjoy enormous variety in your work – one day you could be organising a graduate event, the next advising a new apprentice on her career options. Or you might be visiting a local school or college to speak to students about working with FDCO Services, or helping to ensure our apprenticeship schemes are running smoothly. You’ll also work with your line manager to put individual learning plans in place for each apprentice, and identify specific on-the-job training that cannot be carried out by training providers.

But your work won’t stop here – you’ll maintain records and document our placements and assessments, and ensure the relevant finances are properly managed. We’ll also expect you to perform regular reviews of individual schemes, and work closely with training providers to ensure every apprentice is appropriately trained, developed and assessed. You’ll discover lots of opportunities to share new ideas and make the role your own, and enjoy a real sense of accomplishment as you help our apprentices develop and establish their careers with our organisation.

Use all your planning and organising skills to deliver results that make a real difference

If you understand exactly what an apprentice is and what they do, and the legal requirements that relate to apprenticeship schemes, then you’ll hit the ground running in this role. And if you’re a natural team player with great customer and supplier management skills, you’ll fit right in. You should also have the skills to analyse, interrogate and evaluate data, and the ability to understand and interpret technical documents.

An inspirational and creative planner and organiser, your interpersonal and communication skills will enable you to liaise with a wide range of external providers and key internal stakeholders. Practical understanding of HR policies and Health & Safety practices would be desirable, as would some knowledge of FCDO Services and its functions, and how we support the wider FCDO/One HMG Overseas family.

Grow your career in the biggest way possible

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas. How will we help you in return? We offer a competitive salary, training opportunities and a Civil Service pension. Depending on business need, we can accommodate some hybrid working between the office and home. While on-site, you’ll have access to an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. Above all else, we can offer your job, bigger. As an Assistant Apprenticeship Manager you’ll be using all your skills with an organisation that protects people, information and assets around the world. Using your skills in a way that just means more.

Every single colleague must be security cleared before joining us. If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve a minimum of Security Check (SC) clearance. You can find out more about vetting on our website: https://www.fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/
