The Assistant Accountant post is a varied role that will add to the existing Finance team and play a crucial part in the day-to-day business operations. The ideal candidate will have previous experience within SAGE and SAGE Payroll Processing, as well as a successful track record in transactional finance.
Working closely with the Finance Director and Operations Manager, you’ll process the weekly/monthly payroll, and Accounts payable administrative duties. You’ll prepare bank reconciliations, process month-end journals & support with the wider month-end process.
To be successful in this post, you'll need to have previous experience in similar roles, specifically where you have been responsible Payroll processing, Purchase/Sales ledger maintenance, bank reconciliation & posting month-end journals. This is a varied position, and the successful candidate will be based on site.
An exposure to Export Sales would be advantageous but full training can be given.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Process monthly salaries for 20+ employees and weekly 50+
· Ensure payroll compliance
· Maintain company pension portal, new starts, leavers and upload contributions
· Primary point of escalation for all day-to-day payroll issues
· Process Purchase Ledger invoices/credit notes/payments
· Ensure Sales Ledger account balances are correct and accurate
· Maintain the company’s bank accounts and prepare bank reconciliations through SAGE.
· Prepare and process month end journals and assist with month and quarterly end activities
· Identify and help implement process improvements
· Support finance team with ad hoc activities and projects
· Liaise with finance and operational teams as required
· Support the FD & OM with ad hoc tasks and projects
Person
- Ideally you have relevant accounting and commercial experience, part professionally qualified or AAT qualified, however not necessary if qualified by relevant degree or experience
- You’ve a huge appetite to learn and develop, hands on in the role itself and through additional accounting training
- Naturally inquisitive, you’re able to corroborate information across a variety of sources and driven to understand the underlying key drivers of a business
- You have the ability to view information from a variety of stakeholder perspectives, and present this concisely and professionally; you’re also computer adept, with great experience in Excel.
