Location - New Cross Gate, Hybrid Working (2 days a week minimum in office)

Overview of project/role

The successful applicant will be actively managing the condition of the London Overground train fleet in conjunction with key stakeholders including London Overground’s passenger service operator, train maintainer and train leasing companies.

To manage the hand back of the short term leased fleets operated by London Overground which will include inspection of the units as well as review of all documentation.

To work in conjunction with the Head of Fleet Management with the acceptance and introduction into service of the new rolling stock.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitor and record the day-to-day condition of the train fleet and work with the key stakeholders to keep the fleet in a good state of repair in accordance with the train servicing and train leasing agreements.
  • Develop and implement a programme of train fleet condition audits, establishing train condition metrics and measurement methods, and produce regular management reports on the overall fleet condition, trends, and any corrective actions to be implemented.
  • Monitor the correct implementation of longer-term light maintenance and overhaul strategies in accordance with the train services agreement to ensure a consistently high state of repair of the train fleet.
  • To develop, implement and manage a plan for the inspection, repair, and return/ transfer of trains, in conjunction with the key stakeholders, to meet programmes for.
  • The return of a proportion of the existing London Overground Fleet to train leasing companies, and
  • The handover of the rest of the existing fleet from London Overground’s existing passenger service operator to a new operator.

In each case in an agreed state of repair and with complete and accurate maintenance records.

  • Support the London Overground Head of Fleet Management to develop longer term train condition management processes and procedures with London Overground’s new passenger service operator and the lessor of the new fleet of trains.

Knowledge, Skill’s & Experience

Knowledge:

  • Substantial rolling stock technical knowledge.
  • Strong working knowledge of fleet leasing, hand over and hand back practices.
  • Educated to HNC/D or Degree level in a mechanical or electrical discipline or an equivalent level of practical experience.

Skill’s:

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people within and outside the organisation. Influence people across the organisation and outside
  • Able to provide informed, pragmatic, and timely technical advice to internal and external parties.
  • Ability to prepare concise technical reports.
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills with ability to manage external relationships.
  • To confidently act as the ‘face’ of London Overground and represent its interests to stakeholders and other third-party organisations.
  • Ability to manage and conclude activities effectively and within budget.

Experience:

  • Experience in a technical/asset management role within a train manufacturing, train leasing, servicing, or operating environment.
  • Experience of implementing and managing asset management regimes.
  • Experience of managing fleet acceptance and hand back to/from train leasing companies.
  • Experience in the project management of successful medium sized projects.
