Role: Art Psychotherapist for Children and Young People and their families.
Based: Working within the Harlington Hospice and Michael Sobell Hospice sites North and South of the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Hours: 22.5hrs or 30 hrs
Salary: £38k – £40k

We are an inclusive service and highly value diversity, offering specialist support to families in the London Borough of Hillingdon. We provide end-of-life conversations, individual therapy, family therapy, groups, workshops, professional advice and annual bereavement events.
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate practitioner to facilitate 1-1 individual sessions, family sessions and groups. This will involve working with children and young people ages 4 – 17 and their families who are bereaved, anticipating bereavement or living with someone with a life limiting illness. The role will also require supporting children and young people at the inpatient unit who are spending time with someone close to them who is accessing end of life care.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting with operational aspects of the CABS Service within Harlington Hospice ensuring that systems and pathways are working effectively and will be required to supervise an Art Psychotherapy trainee.
The team is very well supported professionally with clinical/leadership supervision, trainings and all within a strong team approach.
In November 2022 the CABS team won first prize for research presentation at the Hospice UK Annual Conference in Glasgow, for ‘Neurodiversity and Grief; Working together to support pre and post bereaved children and young people’. The project now features on the ‘Hospice UK Innovation HUB’ and we continue with this work with together with our partnerships with schools, social services, CAMHS, GP’s and families to learn more in this under researched area of practice. We welcome a practitioner who has experience of working with young people living with neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD etc) and is interested in contributing to this important area of research.
The CABS service is part of the Integrated Care Service in Hillingdon (ICS) which means we are working closely with multidisciplinary teams within Harlington Hospice as well as partners in the local authority, safeguarding teams, educational teams, community Palliative teams and other relevant health professional bodies. As a growing service, we are keen to ensure that staff in our teams feel encouraged in their own continuing professional development. We have well-equipped therapy rooms, office space and there are a number of opportunities for CPD and contributions to research, professional publications and local/national hospice & palliative care conferences.
It is essential that you will have worked with children, young people and families in hospice, hospital, educational or bereavement service settings. Experience working with children and young people living with neurodiversity (ASD, ADHD etc) would be highly beneficial. The Art Psychotherapist will be involved in assessment, therapeutic sessions and will offer consultation, advice, and training where appropriate to other professionals involved in the child’s care.
The successful candidate will have administrative skills, confident communication and excellent written skills as well as experience in managing your own casework will be required. This is a flexible working role with sessions taking place mostly after school.
We realise the emotional demands of this role, and how important it is to have opportunities for non-clinical and reflective down time. Some of your time will be required to plan and facilitate creative workshops and service-related events.

It is essential that you have up-to-date HCPC accreditation
The role will require the ability and provision for driving between sites and visiting schools, a full driving licence will be essential.
