Job summary

The Mission Ready Training Centre (MRTC) is part of the Army Collective Training Group and is responsible for assuring the directed training of both individual soldiers and formed units deploying on Operations within the UK and worldwide. After being closed for several years, Bassingbourn Barracks is undergoing a complete modernisation to accommodate MRTC and numerous smaller lodger units. The MRTC is a mix of Army personnel (both Regular and Reserve) and Civil Servants.

Your role as an Armoury Storekeeper 1 will be to support the Quartermaster’s department in ensuring all MRTC held weapons are managed and controlled in accordance with legislation and policy, to support MRTC in completing its mission.

This vacancy is advertised at 37 hours per week.

The Armoury Storekeeper 1 position is an essential role within the MRTC Quartermasters Dept, responsible for the management and control of unit weapons.

Person specification

Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Assist in the management of and the day to day running of the armoury.

2. Issuing and receipting weaponry and equipment to personnel.

3. Ensuring all weaponry and equipment is clean and serviceable.

4. Issue / receipt of stores.

5. Ensuring all equipment loaned to outside units is correctly monitored.

6. Liaising with the MRTC Armourers to keep all weaponry and equipment serviceable.

7. Assisting the CQMS Armoury with the preparation of weapons for transportation to training locations.

8. Maintaining documentation for stores accounting and auditing.

9. Assisting the Duty Officer with daily and weekly checks.

This post requires a degree of physical ability as you will be expected to lift and carry weapons, boxes of ancillaries and equipment around the armoury (also load / offload vehicles), and place / retrieve items and boxes from shelving that may be above head height. In accordance with HSE guidance, the recommended maximum manual handling weight that applicants can expect to lift is men (25kg) and women (16kg).




This post will involve on occasions working outside of the core hours, so a degree of flexibility is required. (This may require the need to work on evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays or outside Core hours. Overtime pay or time off in lieu will be granted).

Training

Training will be provided in post on the use of the current inventory management information system – Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI).

Licences

Full Driving Licence – CAT B essential;
CAT C, C+E and Forklift desirable.
Successful candidate will be expected to drive MOD vehicles in the course of their duties.
