Make a difference at one of the most precious sites in the Surrey Hills. Denbies Hillside is one of the finest wildlife sites in the country. From day-to-day care of the countryside estate to future planning and engaging with our visitors, we are after a brilliant Ranger to come to join the team.

Your office will have Skylarks and Nightingales in it, or to be speckled with Adonis Blues and Purple Emperors. No dodgy carpets here, our office floors are carpeted with Heather, Ox-Eye Daisy's and Bluebells.

37.5 hrs per week, permanent contract with flexible hours available to be discussed at interview. Some weekend working is required.

The salary will be between £27,846 and £33,423 dependant on experience.

As Area Ranger you'll be the first point of contact for your site. Taking charge of its management and care as part of the Surrey Hills ranger team under the guidance as support of the Lead Ranger.

We are a small and dedicated team working hard together to improve our sites, engage with our visitors and have fun whilst we do it. We are supported by some fantastic volunteers in our delivery of the aims and strategies of the organisation.

What you'll be doing:We are a dynamic and fast moving team of countryside management professionals. Working as park of a small team and with the help of your regular volunteer team you'll manage all the day to day aspects of delivering maximum wildlife benefit across your site whilst ensuring an excellent visitor experience for or many visitors.

The site has a huge range of habitats from ancient woodland to heathland and chalk grassland and is considered one of the most important sites for chalk grassland butterflies in the country.

You'll help deliver our exciting new woodland management plans and aspirations which include the exciting wood pasture recreation project on the Abinger Roughs.

You'll be based at our offices at Landbarn Farm in Westcott with normal working hours being 8 – 4. Some weekend working will be expected as part of this role with approximately 15 weekend days as duty ranger across the year.

Who we're looking forTo deliver this role successfully, you'll need to;
  • Have practical experience of countryside/rural skills
  • Have good communication skills including public presentation
  • Have strong organisational skills including work programming
  • Have a full UK Driving licence

And you'll need to demonstrate the following experience on your CV/Application;
  • Diploma/NVQ3 or higher in countryside or environmental conservation
  • Have good wildlife identification skills
  • Significant experience of working with volunteers
