Location: 1620 Sixth Line Rd RR #1, Dunrobin, ON
Type: Casual, part-time contract, preferred start date May 1, 2023. Half-day rate of $70.00 and full-day rate of $140.00.
Preferred start date: Monday, May 01, 2023
Closing date: Friday, Jun 23, 2023

What do you offer?

Reporting to the Camp Director, the Overnight Camp Area Supervisor supervises and implements the delivery of quality recreational programs, services, and experiences to children and youth aged 4 to 16 enrolled at Camp Otonabee. The Overnight Camp Area Supervisor supervises counsellors, section support staff, and program staff and provides them with tools to create a meaningful camp experience for all participants as they engage in outdoor activities, discover nature and enjoy the natural environment, build self-confidence, establish lasting friendships. Campers can experience canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, swimming, and more.

This position fosters self-esteem as well as problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills in program participants while working to create an atmosphere of safety, belonging, and positive development in accordance with Y policies and procedures.

This position ensures that health and safety regulations and YMCA-YWCA policies and procedures are upheld. The Camp Area Supervisor adheres to and ensures that the mission, purpose, image, and core values of the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region are conveyed to members, staff, and volunteers with every interaction.

Some of the tasks of this position include:

  • Support and supervise frontline staff in daily tasks
  • Ensures that children have a positive experience leading to personal growth through fun and rewarding recreation and sports programs
  • Provide excellent customer service to the member and participants and proactively address concerns or issues
  • Ensure the safety and protection of all members, participants, staff, and property
  • Responsible for ensuring staff are provided with activity templates and are delivering the quality program per safety protocols and standard practices
  • Support and promote YMCA core values
  • Provide and oversee high-quality program facilitation
  • Assists in coordinating camp logistics

What qualifications and abilities are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have the following:

Language

  • Fluent in English, oral and written
  • Bilingualism an asset

Experience, Skills, and Abilities

  • National Lifeguard Certification, Bronze Cross, Paddle Canada, or other relevant certifications are strongly considered assets for this position
  • Experience in a day or residential camps in positions with progressive leadership and responsibility
  • CUI Level 1 or Level 2 or previous high ropes experience/hours is considered an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid & CPR “C” certification
  • Well-developed interpersonal, conflict resolution skills and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with children, members, staff, and volunteers
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience working in and around camping and outdoor education and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in and around camping and outdoor education
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with program participants, members, staff, and volunteers
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations
  • Ability to be energetic and outgoing
  • Ability to be a self-motivating, enthusiastic, and responsible individual with strong leadership skills

Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Flexible to work days, evenings, and weekends
  • Applicants must already have a valid permit to work in Canada.
  • Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector, not more than 6 months old is required
  • Annually all staff must complete the mandatory training for Protecting Children, Youth, and Vulnerable Persons and submit the certificate of completion.
