Job Purpose
The Area Distribution Manager is a pivotal Leadership role in National Distribution accountable for the transport management within the North region which connect products and services across the UK. We pride ourselves on knowing our stuff. We’ve always looking ahead, exploring new innovations to stay on top of what people will need next. This role is at the heart of this innovation as it leads the Distribution operation in one of our state of the art brand new automated parcel hubs which are the future of our operation.
The Area Distribution Manager works in collaboration with stakeholders across the pipeline to lead an efficient 24/7 transport operation. The role has key accountability for our people and fleet across multiple sites, ensuring we remain best in class for legal compliance.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead compliance on all health and safety and legislative requirements applicable to all fleet and drivers across the region. Including robust O’License management.
- Visibly champion a high quality customer experience through professional and productive relationships with external commercially critical customers/partners.
- Lead strategic projects across the distribution function such as the launch of our new Super Hubs, deploying new technology etc.
- Best in class effective stakeholder management across the Royal Mail pipeline.
- Commercial awareness and embracing digitalization are primary attributes that are needed to lead in a challenging, fast paced 24/7 Operation.
- Coach and review unit performance with Distribution Managers, adopting a continuous improvement approach.
- Lead efficiency initiatives to deliver a cost effective transport solution.
- Partner with the Trade Union, fostering a collaborative approach across the region.
- Ensure all special event activity is effectively deployed in collaboration via robust peak plans.
Key Dimensions
Responsibility for vehicle fleet operation totalling c.600 vehicles and trailers combined.
Team size
Leadership of 5 direct reports, including 4 Distribution Clusters, with a total team size in the region of c.550 employees .
