Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of The West Yorkshire Archive Service.
The West Yorkshire Archive Service is currently looking to recruit an Archive & Records Assistant to provide efficient, flexible support from its central store at Morley to clients, service points and stores around West Yorkshire.
The postholder will be required to locate, retrieve and replace archives and records in the care of WYAS, and deliver/collect to and from clients and WYAS service points. The successful candidate will be expected to drive a WYJS vehicle to carry out these duties and holding a clean driving licence is essential.
There will also be opportunities to help supervise in public search rooms, answer enquiries, work on income generating services including our Research Service, undertake copying of historic documents, sorting and listing of archive material and participate in outreach activities on behalf of the service. Some evening and weekend working may be required.
Successful candidates will have excellent customer care skills, and the ability to deal politely and confidently with clients and service users. The capacity to work to deadlines is also important. A knowledge of relevant ICT systems, administrative experience and 4 GCSE passes (Grade A, B or C) or equivalent, including English and a numeracy-based subject is essential. A knowledge of how archive services operate and of local history would be an advantage. You will possess a level of fitness to enable you to fulfil the physical aspects of the role.
Hours of work are 37 hours per week. Flexible working hours are in operation, but some out of hours working will be required.
