The Council’s Fleet and Vehicle Maintenance Unit covers the servicing, repair and maintenance of a range of different fleet and vehicles ranging from hedge trimmers and strimmer’s to large refuse vehicles.
There are three units based across the East Riding at Beverley, Bridlington and Goole, with each unit approved as a MOT testing station for both council and non-council vehicles. Servicing and repairing up to 700 fleet and vehicles every year, the unit has a strong tradition of recruiting apprentices and training them as Vehicle Technicians.
The Goole and Bridlington units are seeking 1 apprentice each to join the teams and the successful candidate will work towards and complete the Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship (light vehicle) on a 4 year fixed term contract.
Working on a shift-based rota, the apprentices will be working alongside qualified staff undertaking a range of duties including:
- Undertaking repairs and maintenance for all the authorities’ vehicles to include light and heavy vehicles
- Delivering systems which ensure vehicle and operator compliance
- Ensuring administration for all work is completed and recorded in line with the expectations of the Traffic Commissioner
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to work within this very busy and supportive environment. The candidates must have the ability to work as part of a team, an interest/desire to service and repair vehicles and be able to communicate effectively. Applicants must be prepared to work in a workshop environment and have the ability to carry out manual tasks.
The successful apprentices will receive high quality training with a mixture of on-and-off the job training. They will enhance their practical skills by working with fully trained operatives and attend college in Hull on a weekly basis (day-release) to complete their qualification.
You will need to hold a minimum or have a predicted minimum of 2 GCSEs (or equivalent) at a minimum of grade 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
The application process will consist of an initial assessment day at Motor Trades GTA based on Henry Boot Way, Hull followed for the successful candidates, with a second stage interview held by the recruiting manager. The initial assessment day will take place on Friday 19th May with interview dates to be confirmed.
Monday to Friday - on a 2 week rota
Week 1 - 6am until 2pm
Week 2 - 2pm until 10pm
(working 4 x 7.5 hour days and 1 x 7 hour day within a given week)
Plus shift allowance
