Here’s a fantastic opportunity for you to join our highly experienced Civils and Structures team as an Apprentice Civil Engineer.


You will learn how to design sustainable buildings of all shapes, sizes and uses; from hospitals to homes, from data centres to offices, and so much more!


Our apprenticeship programme allows an opportunity to study for an academic qualification as well as gaining professional experience on our projects at the same time! You will be able to develop your technical skills through a variety of projects that you will take on as well as being supported in the development of your softer skills through our early careers program: ‘The Learning Curve’. We are looking to welcome an apprentice who is eager to learn and develop a career in sustainable building design.


What the role looks like


You will:

  • Work with us full time
  • Attend the University of Northumbria for part-time study. Semester 1 and 2 will be day release where you will attend in-person seminars once a week on day release. In Semester 3, there will be a blocked week in May.
  • Gain a BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering Degree qualification


Our Newcastle office will welcome you into our Civil & Structures team to join our cohort of apprentices alongside seniors to support you. We fully fund you throughout your studies, supporting you through mentoring, as well as on-the-job training through ‘The Learning Curve’.


What you will learn with us


  • Preparation of simple calculations to support design development
  • Arrange and attend meetings, take minutes and distribute actions
  • Attending and contributing to project team meetings
  • Managing own workload to meet project and study deadlines
  • Liaising with internal and external team members, developing relationships and people skills
  • Gaining experience in the preparation of reports, drawings and specifications


What will you need to succeed?


  • 120 UCAS tariff points from Grade B in A-level Mathematics and another analytical science subject (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Physics or Technology), or recognised equivalents.
  • GCSE grades C/4 or above in English Language and Maths. See the training providers website for full details of entry requirements.
  • Genuine interest in a career in civil engineering
  • A keen attitude to learning and enthusiasm to achieve in the workplace and in your studies
  • Strong numeracy skills
  • Confident communication skills both written and verbal
  • Enjoy learning how to use the latest digital technology.
