What to expect
To deliver the business change required to realise Post Office Ltd’s strategic outcomes.
To support projects or workstreams from initiation through delivery, implementation and closedown, typically within in a programme structure. This will require working in matrix teams to deliver business solutions, ensuring that critical success factors are met while scope, time, quality and cost of projects are maintained.
A key part of the apprenticeship is the study of the Association for Project Management, Project
Management Qualification level 4. This is an internationally recognised qualification, transferable across industries.
What's involved
Responsibilities vary across assignments. As an apprentice you would be expected to take a hands-on role within a project or programme. You will undertake a range of project management and project management office responsibilities and will be given the guidance, support and opportunity to make a real difference to the Post Office, while also achieving your APM certification.
Our strategic portfolios cover the breadth of the Post Office and we have a broad range of projects in flight at any one time. Whether your interest is in delivering product change to our substantial network of branches or more around the development of supporting technology and infrastructure change, we have a role for you.
You do not need any experience – just a passion for making change happen, enthusiasm for working with others to solve business problems and a willingness to take on big challenges and see them through.
Principal Accountabilities
- Deliver business critical projects/workstreams to time, cost and quality
- Agree and deliver to an appropriate governance structure
- Manage a diverse group of stakeholders to meet business goals and outcomes
- Identify and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and project interdependencies
- Identify and secure appropriate resources to work on the project
- Define clear roles and responsibilities for all team members
- Effectively engage and manage external supplier and third party organisations
- Drive progress against the project plan; understanding, challenging and proactively managing costs
- Report project progress through agreed lines
Future Prospects
Successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to develop their Project Management career within Post Office. There is a clear career path within the PM/PMO roles and experience gained through the apprenticeship will give insights into a broad range of other change roles, making a number of career directions possible.
