Summary of the Apprentice Process Operator role

Are you a passionate and enthusiastic individual who is looking to help support customer health through manufacturer?

At Sterling, our Process Operators play a vital role in manufacturing goods that exceed our customers’ expectations.

We currently have 2 positions available and our programme is designed to equip our Operators with the knowledge and skills they need to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients to the highest regulatory standards.

About the apprenticeship

The Process Operator apprenticeship will last up to 3 years and will include practical training. You will develop your knowledge of process manufacturing and develop the skills you need to operate the manufacturing plant.

This is a level 3 apprenticeship, and you will complete a level 3 diploma and associated portfolio of evidence to monitor your practical development.

No prior experience is required, all on-the-job training will be provided to help you develop. You will be paired with a mentor at Sterling who will help to train you.

Your responsibilities

  • Complying with all EHS requirements including safety policies, training and procedures.
  • Using appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
  • Conducting safety audits.
  • Attending learning events and Safety Action Team (SAT) meetings.
  • Undertaking training on effective shift handovers.
  • Carrying out SAP transactions in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Operating plant under supervision and processes according to procedures (Process Record Sheet (PRS), Permit to Work (PTW), Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).
  • Managing raw materials and intermediates required for processing, including inventory checks.
  • Accurately recording and checking data, both written and electronic.
  • Managing production equipment in accordance with safety, operational and quality procedures.
  • Monitoring performance and critical parameters and alert when necessary.

Requirements for the role

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 4-9 in Maths, English and Science.
  • Must be prepared to follow a course of study to gain a formal qualification.
  • Good level of Health and Safety awareness.
  • Able to work individually as well as part of a team.
  • Be competent with IT systems including MS Outlook, Powerpoint, Word and Excel.
  • Be proactive in finding solutions to problems.
  • Be able to identify areas for improving your work environment.
  • Takes responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work.
