What is a Manufacturing Engineering Apprentice?
Our Manufacturing Engineering Apprenticeship provides the Global Operations Division with talent to meet the current and future demand of the division. You will contribute in many ways to support the division; this includes understanding and supporting our operations technicians assemble and test our instruments to meet our customers requirements, maintaining the manufacturing sites equipment, supporting in the evaluation of new components from suppliers and supporting with the introduction of new products from our R&D facilities.
This is a hands-on practical apprenticeship that will allow you to develop skills in mechanical & electrical instrument build & testing, fault-finding activities and improvement project management across our site.
Description of Apprenticeship Program:
Year 1
You will attend college one or two days per week on a day release basis where you will learn practical & theoretical engineering knowledge in a range of subjects and work towards your qualification
You will rotate around the business in various placements, spending time in the assembly/production area’s with the team of engineer’s we have a on site.
Years 2 onwards
You will continue to attend college on a day release basis for one or two days per week.
Work with other members of the engineering team and manufacturing to learn how product requirements into functional specifications for new or improved parts.
Evaluate failure trend & capability data to support in delivering improvement projects
Support the engineers in the delivery of New Product Introductions
Understand our customers by learning from our product & application specialists.
Take part in Continuous Improvement activities suggesting & delivering improvements in a structured project based approach.
Supporting the engineers & R&D whilst they build and evaluate prototypes.
Support process and quality audits
General
Good communication skills, enabling successful interaction with team leaders, fellow engineers and management
Self-motivated with drive to keep on top of all college work and research into the products that are produced on site and within the PKI group.
A pro-active approach to problem identification and resolution.
Willing to work within structured development program and take responsibility for personal development.
Able to critically look at performance and engineering practices to define and improve departmental procedures.
Scientific / Engineering interests
Travel:
Both domestic and international travel is required in this role on an occasional basis.
Qualifications:
GCSE grades minimum grade C, including Maths, English, Science and other relevant subjects such as Engineering or Product Design.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Experience in software packages including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook
Self-motivated, detail-oriented and passion for learning with a practical mindset.
Good organizational skills.
