As an Apprentice Junior Software Developer, you will use your technical skills, knowledge of software development, emerging technologies and digital trends to deliver sustainable solutions aligned with the business strategy.

What you’ll be doing…

Software Development

Coding and Development:

  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code using programming languages and technologies relevant to the project.
  • Collaborate with external partners to implement software solutions based on project requirements and design specifications.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, consistency, and adherence to coding standards.


Bug Fixing and Troubleshooting:

  • Identify and resolve software defects, glitches, and issues through debugging and problem-solving techniques.
  • Work closely with users to reproduce, analyze, and address reported software bugs.


Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external teams, including project managers, product managers, and other developers.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions clearly and concisely to team members and supervisors.


Learning and Skill Development:

  • Continuously learn and stay updated on emerging technologies, programming languages, and industry best practices.
  • Apply acquired knowledge to enhance coding skills and contribute to the team's technical expertise.


Documentation:

  • Document code, processes, and project-related information.

Testing and Quality Assurance:


  • Assist in the creation and execution of software testing plans, including unit testing and integration testing.
  • Contribute to the identification and resolution of software defects to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Version Control:
  • Use version control systems (e.g., Git) to manage code changes, track progress, and collaborate effectively with team members.


Feature Development:

  • Contribute to the development of new software features and enhancements, following design specifications and coding standards.
  • Collaborate with designers to integrate user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) designs into the software application.
  • Contribute to the development release plan.


Data Managment


  • Regularly review data management processes and propose/implement changes as necessary.
  • Ensure data is stored in the most efficient, compliant and accessible way.
  • Codify qualitative data.
  • Develop and maintain reports and dashboards for relevant apps/projects.
  • Lead day-to-day data operations
  • Work with commercial teams and other departments to regularly organise and cleanse data.

General

  • Develop and maintain relationships with all departments of the business.
  • Contribute to the development of the digital strategy for the commercial team and wider business.
  • Setup and maintain technical knowledge management solution.

If you have any of the following – this would be an added advantage:

  • Relevant degree in computer science/computing or A-level in qualifications in IT or similar (preferred)
  • Level 3 Junior Software Developer Qualification or similar work experience
  • Digital first mentality and natural interest in technology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use your initiative and make decisions.
  • Technical/Programming/Development knowledge and experience (REACT, JavaScript, JSON, HTML, AI, ML)
  • Knowledge of data lakes, data warehouse and structured vs. unstructured data
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Understand concepts of software development
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles
