Apprentice Joiner - Partnerships
Purpose
The broad purpose of the occupation is working with building materials (most often wood) to create and install building components. This typically involves shaping and cutting materials, installing finished materials like partitions, doors, staircases, window frames, mouldings, timber floor coverings and erecting structural components such as floor joists and roofs. All work needs to be carried out safely, using the appropriate tools and to the quality specified.
Course Content
- NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery (Framework) OR (Standard)
- Functional skills in English, Maths & Information Technology dependant on level
- Employment Rights & Responsibilities
The course covers a high level of practical work and it is important that strict safety rules and regulations are observed at all times.
Specific Duties
- To attend college and complete coursework on time and to a high standard alongside working site hours
- To attend and fully participate in regular training and reviews with mentor and line manager
- Wear appropriate clothing/PPE at all times
- To learn through observing and assisting by carrying out service and repair work
- Carry out work allocated to a high standard and ensure it is carried out in strict compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act, and other relevant legislation covering safety in the workplace for self and others
- Clean and take care of company tools and equipment
- Behave in a professional and appropriate manner
- Be punctual, polite & respectful whilst working in residents properties, where necessary
Criteria
Competencies: Knowledge & Experience
Good level of Maths and English (ideally, GCSEs (or equivalent) at 9-4 grades)
- Good level of physical fitness, including ability to lift, and work at heights
- Self-motivated with a desire for long term study
- Good timekeeper
- Be capable of working to strict guidelines
- Ability to use own initiative
- Able to work with others, in a positive manner and build good working relationships
