Job description
Are you enthusiastic to learn more about the gas trade, develop new skills and be committed to a new career path, earning money whilst studying?
Then you Belong at Bromford!
During this four-year apprenticeship you’ll train to become a qualified gas heating engineer, with a focus on gaining the skills needed to carry out gas safety checks and the repair and maintenance of gas heating boilers in our customers’ properties. You will learn gas safety skills, how to diagnose and repair problems – and much more, whilst being part of a dynamic M&E team.
In return we can offer you an excellent structured programme of learning, training and development with a dedicated mentor. You will be rewarded for your efforts and determination to succeed by having the opportunity of building a long-term career with Bromford.
Who are we?
Bromford is a housing association whose purpose is to invest in homes and relationships so people can thrive. We believe it is our customer’s basic right to have a home that is safe, secure, and warm. We will not compromise on ensuring our homes are all of this and more. We provide homes that customers are proud to live in, that work for them and their family and are the springboard they need to achieve their aspirations – not a barrier.
The Role
As a Gas Apprentice you will learn gas skills, including how to make sure our customers’ homes are safe and 100% compliant with gas regulations.
Our gas heating teams typically work Monday to Friday, starting 8am or sometimes before and finishing at around 4.30pm. A flexible attitude is essential.
Learning is a big part of the job, so we would be looking for someone excited to develop themselves. Someone who has a positive approach, good customer service skills and provides a first-class service. This is a development role so whatever your strengths or weaknesses, you will be surrounded and supported by a friendly and experienced team.
You’ll have a mentor to guide you from day one and in no time at all you will be learning practical gas heating skills, whilst studying for a formal recognised qualification.
This apprenticeship is a full time, 4-year fixed term contract, including 3 years of part time study for your qualification and a further 1-year practical placement. You will receive standard Bromford T&Cs like all colleagues and your salary will increase each year.
Your base will be Wolverhampton (WV10) or Lichfield (WS13) hub, depending on where you live. Due to the nature of the programme, a DBS check will be completed for you.
You’ll Need
- To be excited to learn and develop as a professional gas heating engineer
- A willingness to work in our customers’ homes and provide a great service
- Ability to maintain work-life-study balance to meet set deadlines
- An eye for quality and working safely
- To be excited to work in a well-established team creating a Great Place To Work.
Closing date for applications is Friday 2 June with assessments taking place week commencing Monday 26 June and Monday 3 July 2023.
We reserve the right to close this advert early, depending on application volume. We therefore encourage an early application.

Bromford Housing Group is committed to recruiting with care and safeguarding employees and customers, as a result we will carry out pre-employment checks. We will also be asking for references for everyone who is offered employment with us which must cover the last two years. In addition to this, all employees will be asked for evidence of their right to live and work in the UK - further information is available on the UK Government website.
We do not require recruitment agency support at this time - all speculative CV’s will be treated as a direct application.
