About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Finance and Accounting Technician in the Central Finance Division. The Central Finance Division is responsible for providing advice and information on financial matters affecting all departments, divisions and subsidiary companies of the University of Oxford. Our mission is to provide sound financial advice and timely information to academics, researchers, administrators and other stakeholders.
You will gain first-hand experience of a variety of roles in a busy Finance department and develop your skills alongside formal studies for Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). The role will offer the opportunity to move between teams at set periods.
Your day to day duties may include: Learning to provide guidance to staff in departments regarding invoices, expenses and payments processes.
Develop skills in the receiving and checking of banking deposits from departments; the reimbursing of departmental Petty Cash floats and the daily balancing and reconciliation of cash as well as preparing cash and cheques for banking.
With support, allocate income received into the University Bank Account and investigate unidentified payments received into the University Bank Account, where necessary liaising with sponsors, donors and customers of the University.
About the apprenticeship
As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Abingdon and Witney College where you will complete a Level 2 Intermediate Accounts or Finance Assistant Apprenticeship. The apprenticeship will be delivered through in-house training, as well as day-release or other distance learning methods as supported by Abingdon and Witney College. On successful completion the apprentice will progress to the Level 3 Advanced Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship.
For this apprenticeship, you will work within University of Oxford’s Central Finance Division in Central Oxford. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Abingdon and Witney College. During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend one of these college locations for 1 day each week during term time.
In total, it will take 3 years to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you
You will be passionate about starting your career in Finance and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.
To complete the apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. Abingdon and Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process.
There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
