Apprentice Engineer - Sunderland

Joining a highly skilled team, you will learn how to maintain, repair, service, and upgrade of our customers' overhead gantry cranes. This is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your engineering career with great prospects, working for a global company and market leader in our industry.
On completing your apprenticeship, you will secure a full-time permanent position as a Service Technician here at Konecranes. 100% of our UK Apprentices have gained permanent employment in Konecranes, after they have completed our Apprentice Programme, many of which have had long and rewarding careers at a variety of senior levels.
On the completion of your apprenticeship, you will have achieved:
- Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacturing
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance
What will the apprentice be doing?
- Year 1 – full time attendance at a local college or training provider (off the job training)
- Year 2, 3 and 4 – On the job training with additional training at our Banbury Centre
What will the apprentice learn?
- First principles relating to the operation and maintenance of appropriate plant and equipment
- Relevant industry health and safety standards, regulations, and environmental and regulatory requirements
- Maintenance and operational practices, processes and procedures covering a range of plant and equipment
- The relevant engineering theories and principles relative to the role of a Service Technician
Entry requirements
- Minimum 17 years old entry age on the first day of your apprenticeship
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs and have Grade 4/C (or equivalent) or above including the following subjects – Maths, English and a Science
- Able to climb ladders and work at heights
- You must live local/within commuting distance of Nissan Car Factory, Sunderland.
- IT skills
After your first year in college, the apprenticeship will be based at Nissan car plant in Sunderland and will attract the following shift pattern:
- Year 2, at the plant Mon – Thurs 8am to 4.30pm, Friday 8am - 3.30pm.
- Year 3 and Year 4
- Week 1 – day shift as shown above including 1 day at college. No weekend work
- Week 2 – college day (days) 2 x night shifts and weekend shift (nights are 9pm to 6.30am) the weekend is 7am to 4.30pm.
- Week 3 - day shift as shown above including 1 day at college. No weekend work
- Week 4 - college day (days) 2 x night shifts and weekend shift (nights are 9pm to 6.30am) the weekend is 7am to 4.30pm.
Starting salary £15,210.00 plus great benefits!
Your apprenticeship will start at the beginning of the academic year 2023 (Aug/Sept)
