WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
To develop knowledge and skills to be able to maintain and control all site electrical and mechanical equipment to the highest possible standards of efficiency and safety, ensuring the smooth operation of the VOW, ADC warehouse.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:

They are expected to conform to the Company policy and safety codes of practice and co-operate with the Company in the promotion and maintenance of safety measures and procedures.
- To assist maintain all electrical and mechanical equipment to the highest standards of efficiency and safety.
- To assist in ensuring time lost due to breakdown is minimised through a rapid response and the application of all appropriate methods and materials available.
- To assist in the operation of a Planned Preventative Maintenance system for all equipment on site.
- To ensure that all equipment is regularly maintained and tested for legal, Health and Safety, and insurance purposes.
- To assist in maintaining an adequate and organised store of spare parts.
- To work closely with Security to ensure that the building is adequately protected and secure at all times.
- To assist in efforts to achieve the highest levels of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the site.
- To assist in ensuring that all relevant environmental policies and legislations are complied with.
- To assist in ensuring that fire equipment and alarms are tested and maintained in accordance with fire regulations and insurance requirements.
- To ensure the effective communication between shifts so that all members of the Engineering Department are fully aware of current operational and technical issues.
- To carry out any reasonable request as required by management.
- To assist in the upkeep of the site buildings and facilities.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
- To advise the duty engineer, Engineering Supervisor, or Engineering Manager of contractors or suppliers failing to meet required standards.
- To check and authorise deliveries of items either ordered for or by the Engineering Department.
- To advise the Engineering Manager or Functional Management of opportunities for operational or process improvements.
DATA:
- Provide and interpret data in accordance with the job accountability.
- Produce and distribute detailed daily shift reports.
- Provide statistics and information on down time of prime equipment.
CHALLENGES:
- To learn, develop and demonstrate an understanding of engineering skills as required for the role of a Shift Engineer.
- To learn and demonstrate an understanding of the functional operation of the plant, equipment and processes on site.
- To meet those objectives set out during periodic review, training programs and appraisal meetings.
- To achieve performance measurement targets as set by management. (e.g. Planned Maintenance achieved, Equipment Up Time, Task deadlines, etc.)
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Basic skills in MS Word and Excel.
- Demonstrate an interest in engineering through experience, hobbies or training courses.
