We have an exciting opportunity to join a Chartered Certified Accountancy firm based in St Albans as an Accounts Apprentice, working within our busy but friendly accounts team.

The ideal candidate will be involved with the preparation of both sole trade and partnership accounts with the view to progressing to limited company statutory accounts. Also, completing with assistance their personal or corporation tax returns, VAT returns, Bookkeeping and other general tasks. You will deal with a wide variety of industries and requirements and therefore gain invaluable practice experience.
Ideally you will be be self-motivated, computer literate and have good written and verbal communication skills. While it is not essential, the ideal candidate may also be working towards a relevant qualification (AAT).
A full training and study package will be provided to support your path towards a professional qualification. This will most likely include a day release every week to our training provider college.
Responsibilities will include (but not restricted to):
· Assistance with the preparation of personal tax returns
· Assistance undertaking bookkeeping on behalf of clients (in house or at client premises), including processing transactions from documents provided by the client and reconciling control accounts, including Bank, Sales ledger, Purchase ledger and VAT
· Assistance with the preparation and completion of client VAT returns, including liaising with the client to provide the required information, producing supporting schedules and completing the VAT return by the deadline
· Ad-hoc arrangements, either in house or at a client’s premises covering any of the above areas or general bookkeeping and accounts work
· Attend and participate in team meetings and attend training such as seminars/software courses.
· Other ad hoc duties as may be required from time to time to assist with the smooth running of the practice

· Ability to work independently and effectively in a professional team environment
· Effective communication with our office manager and directors, including updates on status of work in progress
· Management of workflow and meeting deadlines
· Ability to communicate information clearly, concisely and accurately, both in person and when using the telephone and email
· Ability to check for accuracy and pay particular attention to detail
· Good IT skills, including experience of Word, Excel, Outlook and other Windows based systems
· Own vehicle to enable travel to client’s premises when required
Qualifications
· 5 Core A* to C GCSE, including Math's and English
· A Level/equivalent qualifications, not essential but preferred
Start date immediate for the right candidate, main office hours will be 9-5:30 Monday to Thursday and 9-5:00 Friday.
