Remove and refit all types of vehicle body panels.

What will the apprentice be doing?
Arriva currently have an opening for an Accident Repair Technician Apprentice, this multi-skilled role is demanding as the successful applicant will work in a highly technical workshop-type environment, working on the full range of Arriva’s fleet to develop a level of skill in all craft aspects of vehicle accident repair, including Mechanical, Electrical & Trim; Panel Repair & Replacement; Preparation and Paint while learning their trade to a recognised qualification.
You will be the next generation of coachbuilder technicians that will have the ability to adapt and change to the required repair methods. This is a great opportunity for the successful applicant to jump start their career and who has an interest in developing their knowledge and skills in all craft aspects.
Duties may include:
Mechanical, Electrical and Trim (MET):
- Remove damaged & associated components from a vehicle and refit
- Re-assemble replacement or existing components to a vehicle
- Remove and re-assemble permanent & non-permanent fixed vehicle body panels
- Remove and refit all types of vehicle body panels
- Remove and refit trim components
- Identify and describe principle vehicle electrical components and systems
- Diagnose and rectify basic vehicle electrical faults
Panel Repair and Replacement:
- Repair all types of vehicle body panels
- Repair or refurbish Trim components
- Repair vehicles using thermal welding operations and processes
- Repair vehicles using non thermal joining, bonding and adhesive processes
- Remove, repair and replace structural body panels
- Identify and rectify vehicle body structural misalignment
Preparation and Paint:
- Apply body filler & foundation materials
- Prepare all types of vehicle body material
- Prepare & refinish metal, plastic and pre-painted surfaces
- Repair minor defects in all types of body panels and materials
- Apply paint, primer and basecoat
- Apply topcoats and clear coats and complete final refinishing operations
- Identify and rectify paint or preparation defects
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The apprenticeship training is delivered in the workplace and via nine weekly college training blocks per year at S&B's specialist Automotive Academy in Bristol. The apprentice will be assigned a workplace mentor and a college development coach who will offer support, advice, and guidance by monitoring progress via a purposely bespoke and developed electronic logbook that all parties can access any time.
Apprentices take a Gateway Assessment at the end of every year to progress until the completion of the End Point Assessment. The apprentice will be required to travel to S&B's Academy and stay in hotel accommodation. All costs for travel and accommodation including breakfast and a two-course evening meal are met by the employer and there will be no cost to you.
As a result, you will receive the following:
- Level 3 Accident Repair Technician standard
- Level 2 Functional skills in maths and English (If not already exempt)
