Applied Data Scientist London, England
Job description
At Thriva, we're constantly trying new things to understand how we can improve people's lives by putting better health in their hands with tools they can trust, advice that they can action, and the support to get them there.
We're rated as the best preventative health tech startup on Trustpilot, and we're only just getting started. We're scaling fast and working hard to offer people the best level of understanding, support, and tracking throughout their health journey.
Thriva was the 7th fastest-growing business in Europe in 2021, and we also recently ranked 3rd on the Sunday Times 100 list of Europe's fastest-growing companies.
We're on a mission to help millions of people worldwide actively invest in their health. We make diagnostic services and the powerful data they provide easy to access, intuitive to action and affordable. We do this via both our b2c and b2b channels.
If you would like to be part of the team helping to give people more years of life in great health, we'd love to hear from you!
At Thriva we aim to help people take action to improve their health. Data insights and personalised advice following blood test results are core to the help we give our users so that they can proactively manage their health. We also work with our B2B partners to realise data value for them. As an Applied Data Scientist, you will help design and prototype data-rich features for our products, and produce stand-alone data storytelling pieces. This might mean working with our clinical team to determine the best way to present health data back to our users so that they understand what their results mean, building recommendation systems that combine clinical insight with data to help users make lifestyle changes or creating an infographic or dashboard to tell a data story to one of our partners.
You will join a team of Analysts and Engineers and work together with them as well as with multidisciplinary teams of product managers, clinical researchers and software engineers to help Thriva deliver a set of innovative data products. We have a mature data pipeline - our analytics stack currently consists of a snowflake data warehouse with data transformation in DBT and looker as our BI tool. We use python and jupyter to prototype data science product features and we have some data science features in production to build on. We move fast and are always looking at how we can improve, so you'll be involved in decisions to evolve the technologies we use and will help to bring data science best practise to the team, establishing ways of working that help us move from prototype data science solutions to production data features in partnership with our engineering teams.
Day to day, you will
- Work collaboratively to design data product features or bespoke insights pieces, understanding user need, clinical context and finding ways of delivering data value to end users
- Advocate for best practices in how data are presented to end users, contributing your knowledge of statistical methodologies
- Build prototypes in a data science stack (e.g. SQL, jupyter and scientific python)
- Build dashboards in looker to surface insight about our products to answer business questions, or to deliver value to partners
- Work collaboratively to ensure prototypes are suitable for production (use accessible data, are sufficiently fast, produce a reliable and valuable user experience)
- Work in partnership with our Data Analysts and Engineers to ensure our data pipeline is fit for purpose for business intelligence and applied data science use cases in our products
What we're looking for
- You want to be part of and advocate for our data strategy at Thriva, using data to deliver value that improves health
- You have strong statistics foundations
- You have a breadth of knowledge in core data science methodologies (e.g. across supervised and unsupervised learning, probabilistic modelling, natural language processing, recommendation systems etc)
- You have good working skills in programmatic data handling and modelling, writing clean readable code
- You are ready to dive into our data, and contribute your ideas within the support network of a close-knit, collaborative team
It would be great if
- You have experience with SQL and python
- You have experience working with health data
- You have experience working with multidisciplinary product teams
Our values
- Truly care
- Intelligent Pace
- Stay humble
- Galvanise
If you would like to be part of our journey and you have experience as a data scientist helping create value from data, we'd love to talk to you!
