About the Role
This hybrid role is crucial in supporting, maintaining and improving solutions that are central to the councils’ operations and will involve direct, hands-on systems support of COTS software with a few scripts and bespoke solutions

Our ICT shared service is based in Stevenage and Hertford providing essential IT services and telephony to both councils. Both councils are transforming the way they work, supported by the ICT Shared Service who run and maintain our information systems and software applications. These systems collaborate to support the operations of all departments and we are looking to hire someone dedicated to owning the support and development of these systems.

In summary, the role is to ensure that our colleagues who work across the organisation have systems that work for them and best support their operational needs. This is a role that will make a difference.

About you
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated information systems expert to be the main technical authority on our systems that support back-office operations such as Finance, Procurement, Estates, HR, Payroll, ICT etc.

You will be able to build working relationships, understand how these systems and data work together to support our operations working closely with all departments to improve solutions, create roadmaps and resolve pain points.

Your excellent problem-solving ability, strong customer service ethos and effective communication skills will be regularly required when working with business units and with elected members.

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • a proven track record of information systems development and support.
  • experience in systems analysis and solution delivery.
  • thorough working knowledge of SQL and databases (ideally MS SQL Server).
  • experience of data warehousing and reporting
  • an ability to describe technical complexity in simple ‘non-technical’ terms.
  • an ability to develop and maintain successful internal and external relationships.
  • knowledge of Finance, HR, ICT systems and operations would be useful.

Our benefits
We offer a range of benefits to support our staff including:
  • Pension Scheme: We offer a career average pension scheme, providing generous benefits upon retirement, as well as a lump sum and pension for dependants
  • Flexible working: available upon request, subject to operational requirements.
  • Part time and Job share: all our full time vacancies are open to job share unless otherwise stated.
  • A variety of different types of paid and unpaid leave covering emergency and planned leave, maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave.
  • 25 days holiday rising to 31 days (depending on Local Government service)
  • An extensive range of learning and development opportunities
  • Confidential advice and support on personal, work, family and relationship issues, 24/7, from our Employee Assistance Programme
  • Season ticket loans and discounts for public transport
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Stevenage Credit Union: secure savings, free life insurance and access to cheap loans.
