About the Role

This vacancy is an opportunity to work within the Skills for Life curriculum of the Leicestershire Adult Learning Service as a Learning Support Assistant. The Skills for Life curriculum delivers courses specifically for adults that wish to improve their English and Maths skills.

We deliver basic reading and writing courses along with Functional Skills and GCSE qualifications. This role will be supporting the whole curriculum working alongside specific tutors in delivery and development of English and maths. Not all of our learners undertake a qualification to begin with; their aim may be to improve skills and confidence in order to help with their employment, day to day life and social settings.

A good level of English and maths is required to support learners achieve their aims. We would also be looking for some experience in supporting in an educational environment or similar.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will be working under the guidance of the curriculum coordinator and course tutors to support learners to achieve their learning outcomes. The successful candidate will be working with diverse groups of learners in a vibrant and engaging learning environment. The support could include assisting someone physically, helping with understanding maths problems, reading, organisation, writing or keeping focus.

Adult Learning courses are delivered in a variety of venues around Leicestershire and the successful candidate(s) may be required to work in more than one location. In particular we are looking for a candidate who is able to offer flexibility in the area and locality they support in.

The advertised hours will be worked during term time only and may include one evening session. This is a 1 year fixed term contract.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have a high standard of literacy and numeracy (Level 2 / Grade C / 4 or above in maths and English
  • Have experience of working in an educational environment or working with adults with additional learning needs
  • Be an effective communicator and able to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from a variety of cultural and social backgrounds
  • Be positive, patient, and considerate in your approach to learners
  • Have a good level of digital / IT skills (experience of engaging in online/distance learning would be beneficial)
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety and Safeguarding policies and good practice
  • Ability to work flexibly across venues and at a range of times during term time
  • Willing to undertake mandatory training and undertake regular CPD (continuing professional development)

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent English is an essential requirement for this role.
